Tyre recommendations?

I'm fitting 18" spiders to my Chimaera and wondered if anyone could recommend a tyre to use. I want it grippy but also safe in the wet so rules out 888's and the like. Anyone?
Oh, and at reasonable cost of course.

On my chimaera I've got 245/40 R18 back and 215/45 R17 at the front, both running T1-Rs.
Have been very impressed with them so far, even on those v. rare occasions when I've had to drive through downpours..

As posted on this thread in the Cerbera forum, both Gazzab and myself happy with the Goodyear Eagle F1's as a good all round road tyre

The 18 inch SP12s i have on the rear have 245/35 series T1Rs.
Despite the low profile the comfort is relatively good due to the Toyos more compliant sidewall. Also my speedo reads very accurate at 101 compared to 100 on the tomtom. Your speedo may read under with 40 series tyres.

Thanks Derek [and everyone else so far] but am also thinking of what size exactly;245/35, 245/45 etc, etc for front, and for rear. Don't want to cock up the gearing/speedo thing. There was a rolling radius calculator on here somewhere but I'm buggered if I can find it. Anyone?

Has anyone put Toyo R1-R's on a TVR yet? I would on mine if i were keeping it. Have them on the Lotus as they are rated the best tyre out there in the Lotus world. I dont think the sizes are available for those with std wheel sizes.

Yep I have them fitted, My mate in Manchester also has them and my Brother has just ordered them.

225,40,18 Fronts
255,34,18 Rears

We all have Tam's
Early days yet but so far so good

Nice one bloke...might follow suit when I get chance...toyo's on both sets of my chimaera wheels and the same on the cerb...I have heard good reports about bridgestones from crispian though....but he does a lots of all weather running where mine is mostly dry.

will call you to check progress over weekend ...hey don't forget I am running those 18ins split rims on the chimaera if you want an idea of tyre sizes...they were originally supplied via TVRPower so gearing would be correct ?

steve's on about uniroyal rainsport 2 tyres i changed to a couple of years ago,jontam too on his tamora.in the wet,theyre as sticky as the preverbial to a blanket,very good in the dry too.getting around 10k out the fronts and 4-5k from the rears.not a common tyre for tiv's but i wouldnt put anything else on for mixed weather driving!

Another one for Uniroyal Rainsport - hoping to get a few more miles than that though. Did around 20k on the rears with the original rainsport tyre and found them very good wet or dry.Have now replaced with rainsport 2 on rear, first impression is good but think that the sidewall is a little softer than the older version causing the rear to move around when driving out of corners. Am playing around with pressures to get a more planted feel. Front tyre original rainsport still doing well. Original size wheels, and speed rating and sizes all standard. Andy
