Loose sump bolts!

Was just about to replace my chim sump gasket because of infernal leaking when I thought I would try the bolts for tightness first.

Blimey, all the bolts were loose and needed 1-2 complete turns to tighten!

I replaced the sump gasket 6-8 months ago useing the silicon on, tighten loosely leave overnight and tighten again approach.

Yes, I did tighten them again a second time.

Any ideas how to stop them loosening or, is it a tighten every 3 months jobbie?

I'd drop it & check whether some of your sump gasket is in the sump at the next oil change. Personally never seem a problem with bolts loosening - just the 'gasket' getting thinner

Any recommendations for those new fangled rubber sump gaskets?

I had exactly the same symptoms. Found 90% of the gasket in the oil pickup!!!

Tough old engines, I've always had good oil pressure, the drips were just getting worse. I was really pleased, when I had my hands inside there were no metallic particles whatsoever. Glad I dropped the sump just to be safe though.
