T400R Scalextric... Cool or Wot!!

I thought it was nigh time Dan jnr. got his first experience of competative motorsport... after all he was five weeks old yesterday.

So I popped out and bought him the TVR Challenge Scalextric set. Unfortunately it says 3 years plus on the box, so he will have to spectate for the next 35 months but hey ho. (oh I also bought him a special edition Dicky Stanton DeWalt T400R)

The point is, how cool are the cars these days!! i remember mine as a kid were all blobby and cheap looking. These are real classy models. I was almost... almost scared to drive them. But i overcame my fear and gave the little chap a demonstration

i recently got back into Scalextrics, but i dont have the excuse of a young 'un - i got the Tuscan set for me . I agree the cars are much better. I just wish they would bring out more TVR models (especially a Cerbera), and i cant believe they have never done any of the older ones over the years (or have they?)

Thankfully I can blame my ownership on my 9 year old daughter. Honest!

Although, sadly we now have the 'streamlined' T400R's.

They are great fun. jamer and I spent messed with his TVR Le Mans set over the weekend - the only complaint I have (apart from his tan being about the right shade of brown for being at Le Mans) was that the cars are really fragile - in true TVR style, things kept falling off - bonnets, front grills, wing mirrors and spoilers.

I put down my losing the decreased traction.

cant blame anyone for me having a set. careful with the cars though. the wing mirrors and rear spoiler have the tendancy to fall of when you hit skirting boards at speed. a few different cars on ebay, mainly the 440's and speed 12's havn't seen any other models though.
you can however get a shelby cobra (cool car)

Got my set out at the weekend for my 3 daughters - honest!

It was a wedding present from my best man due to me moaning about all the boring household presents.
'I want a Scalextric' I said in jest - ..and that's what we got!

Great. I did the same a few years ago when my two sons were youngsters. They are now 4 and 7 years old and get a lot of fun out of it (as does dad of course). We had a basic loft conversion done about a year ago so that is now used as permanent track space which includes lots of track and a 20 foot straight. Also a couple of small night lights for when the lights go out for night driving!!!

What amazes me is that for something that's been around for so many years and is still fundamentally unchanged, how much pleaseure it still gives in today's age of computer games etc.

The Scalextric Car Club are getting rid of the leftover last years club model - a Red Ford GT40 for only £12 inc p&p, and if you are quick they are also getting rid of a few remaining 2002 club models of a Porsche 911 GT1 for only a tenner (inc P&P)

I got my set at Christmas.... Sorry, that should say "My 4 year old son got his set at Christmas"!! I've waited 4 years for that!!

Problem with a 4 year old playing with it is that I am (we are) now down to one wing mirror and one bonnett between two cars

The trick is to set up 2 circuits! We recently upgraded a lot of the track in our loft to the new Sport track so we've set up a miniature track for the younger 4 year old son to use with some old cars that are less fragile. That way everyone gets to play and there is a reduction in breakages.
