MK1 door switch intermittent - help please!

The Tuscans drivers side door button (one under the wing mirror) has always been intermittent - I'm sure there is a pattern but I have never figured it out.

Keen to fix it once and for all.

The internal one always works 100%

I have removed the wing mirror 'hoping' to see a small corroded button but actually all seems well sealed.

I have cut off the button and stuck an ammeter over it and it seems to be working fine.

So if the internal button works and the external button is not the problem what do I do next?

Is this going to be a nause??!!

I dunno how different the Tuscan is to a Chimaera but I've been having intermittent doors as well recently. It was cured by cleaning the relay contacts under the dash. Might be worth a try.

I had this problem on my passenger door, it turned out to be the door control box located under the stereo, you will need to remove the centre console to access it.

Was it the same as mine in as much as it was just your door handle switch?

I would have thought that if the box was knackered the internal button would not work either?

Could I swap the boxes over to test then (pass one is fine)

Could be a dodgy connection at the connector where the door loom meets the main one.

Just unscrew it and have a look for corrosion.

The very act of dis/reconnecting it could solve your problem.

I saw this yesterday - can you get to it without removing the door?

Does it just unscrew?

Mine started on the inside button, was very hit or miss if it was going to open the door. My passengers took to lowering the window and using the button under the mirror. Then THAT one started to play up so had to use the emergency handle to get out. I had a new control box fitted at my last service hence a knowledge of my particular problem.

Yes and yes.

How to you unscrew it without extra long nose pliers? There's no hope with my big hands any other way?

Well under door switch removed and tested - all seems fine.

door connector removed and re-done (was worried that I would never line it up!)

Initally all was good but its still sporadic on when it chooses to open - internal switch is still 100%.

Any other ideas? Would take it ot RG to check out but I'm sure it would decide to work that day and end up costing me £££ for nothing!
