Major Tuscan Failure!
Discussion
Driving home tonight, I noticed the gear knob getting very hot in the Tuscan. A little later I noticed a god awful smell, I was losing power every time I depressed the clutch. I just managed to limp home. The engine seems to be running OK, I had a new clutch fitted less than 3 months ago, the clutch fluid reservoir is OK. I am thinking the gearbox may have gone? Any thoughts?
The smell is probably the clutch plates burning. If the gearbox has 'gone' then you would lose drive fairly quickly and would hear and feel very bad vibrations from the box when the teeth strip off the cogs. Probably not a major 'box failure - more likley to be clutch.
Time for recovery to dealer I suspect....

WHAT A PRAT!!!!!!
I had been driving without the handbrake being properly released, hence the smell and loss of power when depressing the clutch! God knows why the red light didn't come on.
I have just taken it for a run and all seems well. I will get the brakes/handbrake looked at tomorrow.
Hoping to be taking part in VMAX on Sunday again, hoorah!

I didn't know which smiley to use so I used a few. As for the last one (the tadpole) well.....
I had a similar episode once when I was a student (the first time around). A friend put new brake linings on the back of my car and then adjusted the handbrake.....except, it was SO adjusted that the brakes were binding even with the handbrake off!
I remember coming off the motorway with the back wheels practically on fire! Went through a puddle only to generate huge clouds of steam. Took about half an hour to cool down.
I did all the servicing myself after that. doh!

Nice one Neil ! These are always the best type of 'Major Problems' I've had a few myself over the years. I know EXACTLY the sense of relief you're feeling now !
