This is the question readarguepunch
It seems that some (well) modified cars struggle to sell, and yet
lots of people buy standard cars and then spend loads of money modding them?
So what constitutes a mod too far?
My car has braided brake lines, ACT plenum hose, silicon water hoses, black imolas
and a stainless dash. I bought the car like that, and I think some of extras
are sensible changes.
What's the general opinion?

I have a fantastic original house.

The windows are original single glazed and drafty, there is no central heating, and the wiring was done in 1970, there is no indoor bathroom, just an outside toilet.

Hot water is by solid fuel yorkshire range.

It's funny how we approach cars vs houses.

OMG you modified your Barret Executive, how could redface

It's a good question. INMHO, a highly modded car is only going to appeal to a very limited market but sensible upgrades like Nitrons and minor engine enhancements should put a bit of value on the car and certainly not detract from its appeal.

Engine transplants, big engine upgrades and interior mods might put people off as they will perceive that the car will be less reliable and more costly to insure.

But while I prefer a gas cooker some folks just love an AGA, and then there
are the weirdos that like electric!
Perhaps it boils down to the perception of what constitutes an improvement
Shocks for instance, a new set of Bilsteins would probably transform my
car and they are the standard fitment, but lots of people seem to think
that only fully adjustable aftermarket shocks are worth fitting

It all depends on what mods were done and why.

I'm getting a few mods done to my p&j now and its purely for my benefit don't give a toss about re-sale as i dont plan to sell it.

If parts need replacing then its better to upgrade and replace like for like isnt it?

I wouldnt worry about a car having a bigger than standard engine just as long as other components have changed too to cope with the bigger power i.e. alloy rads, plasma ceramic coated manifolds etc...

The only thing that would make me think twice before buying a car is if it has NOS or has been supercharged. Also, exterior mods will make a difference too i.e. spoiler, aftermarker alloys etc...

Other than that then pretty much anything within reason.

It's in the blood of the car to be modded - just carrying one what appears to have happened on the production line at the factory - so you're only really carrying on tradition.

Seems to me like if you don't like modding then maybe TVR isn't the ideal car for you?

All for it myself as long as its in keeping with the car ie no flared archs, wings etc upping the horsepower by whatever means is just keeping the car current and up to date in my book, hence for me the Blower route.if you are a TVR V8 fan its your only option otherwise buy a Speed6.bit unsure about some aftermarket wheels though.i have managed to track down some original 16 inch TVR wheels which are as close to Estorils as you are going to get.

I'm not against modding at all. In fact there's a heavily modified chim' in
classifieds I'd love to own and mod further, I'm curious as to why it hasn't
sold which is partly the reason for the OP
If I had the spare cash my car would get some new wheels and lose its dizzy
Definitely, I am not against modding at all if its tastefully done (to my tastes of course!), but the stigma is probably well deserved, because unfortunately the 10 exhaust piped Corsas with chicken wire grills are the first thing you think of smile
Of course one mans tastefull mod is anothers chrome Veyron or carizma cerb vomit

O/T but your LS7 TVR looked great on the cover of Sprint this month!

We met briefly at Holy Island - I had the Red Chim500.
