I'm 27 and my new Chim 4 midnight blue is a dream car for me...I've been riding a Kwak 600 Ninja and the TVR could beat it I reckon.
In case there should be some other lucky young guys who've found a way to own a TVR, (or are considering it), I would like to recommend Tescos for insurance.
Unlike the 10 other £2600 quotes I had for fully comp insurance (3 no claims), Tescos was only £1200 - though admittedly with a £1000 excess!!!
I'm off home now...taking it steady in 1st and 2nd before I floor it in 3rd (on a straight road).

I really don't want to pour yellow stuff on your hard built fire, but have you tried Alex Manning as well?
This broker managed to insure me (28, 7 years NCB, slightly overweight, avec wife) for £435 (K reg. Chim 4.0L, fully comp, 5000 miles p.a)
That's the cheapest car I have insured for 10 years (i.e. ever!!).
There's quite a lot of threads on this. Try 'search'ing for more examples.

Same here... £1200 is certainly not an outrageous quote, but it is worth checking performance car specialists. Most of them advertise in Sprint. You may want to try these:
Sunninghill 01276-474844; Classicline TVR: 01455-891330; Peart: 01539-730666; Cheam: 0208-770-1001; A1: 01202-760022; TVR Car Club: 01491-578759; Norwich Union Direct: 0800-888112; Croftbrook: 01992-692364
I am insured via Sunninghill, live in central london, car is parked on the road, 2 years NCB (no further insurance history in this country), fully comp, include 30 days european cover + track-day cover, and top-end RAC cover thrown in: £1400+

Well done on getting your insurance at a price you're pleased with. I'm also 27, with 6yrs no claims, 1 accident and Alex Manning insured me for £850 fully comp, protected no claims and unlimited mileage, so give 'em, a call, you'll be even happier I'm sure.
Just as a by the way, do you think our Chimaera 4l could beat a Kwak 600? I had a ZX6R G1 3 yrs ago (I now have a XZ9R C1) and there is no way that a chimp, could ever live with it, around the twisites yes, no arguement there (one large tyre on each corner grip alot better than 2 in a line) but as soon as 100 yrds of straight appears, the bike is going to hammer us both. Chimaeras are fast, but not that fast.

quote:When I spoke to Mannings they said they could quote but it wouldn't be 'cheap' for the first year and when I mentioned my best quote the broker said "take it, that's a good price". Can't fault advice like that and I'll definitely go back to them when renewal's up.
I thought Mannings wouldn't insure anyone in their first year of TVR ownership, unless they'd owned something similarly powerful before?

A. Manning was by far the best for me.
25, 4Yrs NCB, 6000 Miles per annum, '95 4.0L Chimaera, Garaged at night, Cambridgeshire Post Code. G/f on polict as well. £605.00. It was my first TVR too.
I was so impressed I can't stop telling people. I especially enjoyed an incident at work where my boss who isn't interested in cars and runs a crappy K Reg escort asked me about insurance.
He was saying about the 150% rise in premiums because of sept 11th, blah, blah, etc, and generally gloating that he was glad in didn't have to insure a car like mine.
So I asked him how much he paid this year, he said £650 fully comp (he does park it on the street). You should have seen is face when I said mine was £605. It made my day

That is cheap - what did you have before the Tiv? I didn't even bother ringing Mannings because of what everyone said about them not insuring first time Tiv owners.

I was with Sunninghill last year - renewal this year was £1400 (it had gone up), looked around and ended up with Manning for £950 although they don't provide RAC Cover. Try Manning and get your own breakdown cover as it will cover all of yours and your partners vehicles rather than just the TVR.

I'll happily talk with you offline (let me have your email addr) about my current situation with Te$co and my insurance claim.
Whilst they were cheap (£1000 - £350 excess & track cover) there is very little to convince me now that this was preferable to paying more but getting people who actually know something about the car!
Also Direct!ine are definitely (believe me I've spoken to enough of them in the last 6 weeks) the people running the Te$co callcentres/operation - so if you have any concerns on them them be warned...
Only wish I could move to Mannings and still keep my protected full no claims.... ho hum...

What's all this about Mannings not insuring people in their first year of TV ownership?
39, full protected no claims, Cambs pcode, garaged, 5000pa all for only 415 smackeroonis
And I've never had anything as powerful as my Chim 4.0 before (my Stag and Mustang might each have had a V8 under the bonnet but that's all about all they had in common)
Hang on tho' I did have an AX GT once
Anyway, one of our other cars is an MGF so I don't think that qualifies either.

I was involved in a sprint down a runway for cars and bikes, at the time i had a chim 450. it was the quicker of the cars there but sports 600's and upwards were too quick. My own bikes a blade and a GSXR11w/c were far quicker on the straight. With a good pilot i reckon even on the wobblies it would be a close win for the bikes. Chims are quick but still a bit of a handful
