First lock-up.

Pootling around the Somerset lanes this weekend at around 45 mph (guessing here, but I was on holiday and in no rush) I round a bend to find a Golf stopped in the middle of the road, just around the corner allowing a large truck to come up the hill.

Instinctively I'm on the brakes and I lock up, coming to a stop a good distance from the Golf (closer than I would like however) with a loud squeal and a good amount of tyre smoke from the front right tyre. The chap in the Golf has an eye on me in the mirror (quite rightly)

I haven't locked up in years, and it took me by surprise. Its my own fault, I usually have the lack of TC and ABS on my mind (esp on the motorway) but on that day I let my concentration slip a little, instead I was enjoying the sun and chatting to the Mrs.

No real reason to post this, other than to get it off my mind. I guess I feel a bit idiotic for letting it happen in the first place. Be careful out there.

Happens to the best of us and it certainly focuses the mind!

Been away for a couple of weeks and was out in the Cerbera yesterday, squirted the loud pedal on a short stretch of dual carriageway and made the roundabout at the other end a lot quicker than I anticipated, hence some heavy braking. Although the wheels didn't lock the road was uneven and on a slight curve so lots of squirming was happening underneath me!

I think I have had more lock ups with the Tuscan than any other car. Think its the lack of servo's. It goes from hard pressing on the brakes and then that final little push and it locks up. So far has only been on damp/wet roads when braking for junctions at speed.

Not much drama just a quick chirp and thats it.

I am sure a few of us have been there i have been brought up in a era with ABS and after the long winter the first run i went on with some mate's this year on a wet day i may add. My mate binned his civic and i came round the blind left hand bend to find him hanging out the hedge only going at 30mph or less but panic made me slam the anchors on thinking i was in the volvo, as i was skidding towards him, somthing made me take the foot off the brake to allow me to steer round him and start braking again thank you Mr Caden for saving my Chim but my own fault for getting in to the skid in the first place.

I can't be trying hard enough then because with the exception of different surfaces ie nearside wheels on a dusty country lane verge mine has never locked. I've always maintained that the brakes on the Tuscan are so easy to modulate when approaching the lock up point precisely because they are not over servoed so you can feel what's going on through your right hoof!
