Rules for exhaust sound level

I have a sound level meter and intend to use it at PH events like PF and other local gatherings. Does anyone know the correct way to take measurements, angle and distance from car etc?

Anyone going to Castlecoombe on Friday? Im taking the Cerb there although I wont be tracking it Far too noisey with no cats and a sports exhaust I think.

The dB meter should be placed at a 45 degree angle at 0,5 meters at the same level as the exhaust exit opening, at no less than 20 cm. above the tarmac.

I think there are a few different methods but the one I've seen the most is 1m and 45deg away from the line of the exhaust, or was it 0.5m .

I'm sure a regular sprinter or such will give a more definative answer.
