Don't laugh, Has anyone on this site got a smart car they use as a second car ??
Had a look at some the other day and I must say I was rather impressed, as a very economical second car, useing the chim for the 100mile round trip to work every day is getting a bit silly !!
Any thoughts ?

I test drove a Smart car on the Driven day at Milbrook, and it was the most fun car I drove all day! The semi-auto gearbox was a good laugh and the small turbo makes driving it a bit more interesting... It's just weird when you turn round to see the read windscreen/back wheel just behind you.

Am thinking about getting one myself now!

Also drove the SMART at Millbrook; very good it was too If you go for the SMART and Passion you can sling it in full auto for the stop/start of city driving, then with a push of the button welcome to sequential gear changes - these are quite jerky though !! so smooth out the throttle inputs !!

Didn’t like the driving of them, I'm sure for the money you could get something more fun.

Carl aka Hertsbiker has one, and he can often be found ranting about how good it is up to 80mph

Yes I must admit... I love my Smart. I live in Central London and I can't think of anything better to drive around town. The only problem is that I always feel compelled to drive like a hooligan, zipping around and filling every single gap in the traffic
It is even ok for long-ish drive - went down to Cornwall with it(that was before I got the Chim).
They are cheap to run - fill up for a tenner and it'll take you 200+ miles, insurance (on street parking in London, 4years NCB, fully comp) is just over £300, servicing is £90 every 6000miles / 1 year. But parts are expensive. Bumped into another car a month ago: 3 panel and a light were damaged... £640

I had one at the same time as my 4.0l, did about 30k in it in 18months some of the best fun I have had semi auto box and turbo is very entertaining. at 80 / 90 they are interesting to say the least especially where lorries are envolved.
Just make sure you get the extra wide wheels on the front i.e. the same as the back and then they handle like a go cart.IMHO go buy one 64mpg as well !!!! Beats the 15 i get in my 5.0L

I haven't had the nerve to push mine yet - but it does have the skinny front wheels, so maybe I shouldn't.... oh what the hell, where are the keys.....

I test drove one, and thought it was sh!t - gearchange was so bloody slow it must have been a monkey dissasembling the box, swapping the cogs and reassembling it under the floor. And it bounced around like a space hopper above 70- not to mention the fact it nearly got blown over by a stong side wind. Couldn't possibly live with one - but then I don't do much city driving
