Any interest in...... (are you reading Fernhurst?)
Discussion
Chaps,
I was talking with Drew and Brian about my idea for having part of the rear screen zipped so that it can be laid on the parcel shelf before dropping the hoop. This will have 2 benefits, primarily it'll stop the plastic getting creased/scratched/torn and also should allow the hoop to drop lower.
I have discussed it on here before and others have shown an interest and I'm just wondering how much interest there really is?
The only pitfall I can see is making the lower parts of the zip watertight as the area along the top will sit behind a flap. I'm happy for my car to be the guinea pig for the greater good of all of us.
So hands up and lets see if this is a worthwhile project.

Brilliant idea! Why do you want to unzip it completely?
The MX5 for instance doesn’t unzip completely only enough to fold it down and out of the way!
the zip opens from say from the 20 to 8 position clockwise to the 20 past 4 position.
BTW Drew and Brian, how are you two reprobates?
Hay Drew pi$$ed on Sunday were we?
See you soon guys. OH

I dont mate. The stretch between the alloy struts will remain fixed.
I'm not sure the hoop will drop much, if any, lower. I don't have the Chim in front of me but from memory the seat belt anchors aft of the seats, or the section on which they're mounted come in to contact with it. I find it a pain as I think it spoils the line when down. How about re-designing that whilst you're at it .Mark!!

Not helpful but... I know when the weather's good for dropping the roof... when the rear screen is easy to bend
The weather is good for dropping the roof when it is not raining. This is part of the reason for doing it as folding the plastic when it's below freezing causes the most damage IMO.

You may be right about the hoop not dropping lower, that would be an added bonus if it did that's all.

I used to have a zipped rear window on my Triumph Spitfire Mk 4....Brilliant idea imo
Ditto (BTW where are you now CVC510K?)
I also remember I had a lot of grumbles about that car, but the roof was not one of them - never leaked, and the zip ran all the way down. It was set back behind a flap at least 1" thick IIRC.
Deffo up for this - my rear screen could do with improving now so happy to join in the interest.
TR7's had a screen that zipped down and rested inside the car which was nice till you put your foot down. Then it got sucked out the rear. So it was either hood up or hood down. I usually kept mine up so I could cruise at high speed without dust, papers and cigarette packets levitating in the car. That was way back in the days when I used to smoke.
Thats a great Idea and I would be interested to see one.
I am sure that you could add a couple of small hooks to the back of the parcel shelf to stop it getting Sucked out.
I normall roll a towel in my screen to stop it creasing.
Not sure the hood would go lower down though??
It would proabaly be more water tight with a little flap covering the zip so as the water would ride over over the zip onto the screen.
Come to think of it why dont we just do away with rear screen you cant see Sweet Fa out of it anyway
