What engines will fit in a Chimp/Griff?

Was wondering what other engines could be transplanted into the cars other than a big US lump?

What about a Jag V8?

From what i have seen at various drag strips you can pretty much make any engine fit any car if you cut it up enough

You need a fairly narrow V8 so most modern V twin cams are out. TVR tried the Volvo V8. Something like a Subaru engine would be interesting.

One of the S Series boys is trying to fit a 4 litre Lexus V8 - and its not as tight as you would think as the manifold flanges are angled down with the side of the head not angled out at 90 degrees like the Rover.
There's quite a bit of tuning kit around for it now apparently including the all important manual box options I think including 6 speed.

It's more a thought as to what other engine of British origin could be shoehorned in.

A Jag v8 is easy to come by and Aston v8's both old and new can be obtained.

Just wondering if a very modern British v8 could go in.

The Audi V8 (ABZ) has the same problem as the Lexus with exhausts, but its not insurmountable - trust me Plus the AV8 is about 20cm shorter than the RV8...and weights less...and will sit at a shade over 300hp day in day out...and costs pocket money...and in a few weeks time I'll have a bell housing adaptor available for anyone who wants one...and maybe some engine mounts too...but you never heard it from me right?

...allegedly, although I've never found any hard evidence to support that, I know BMW did produce an V8 around the time of WWII but cant find anything directly linking it to the Buick engine.. Happy to be corrected though.

Not relevant to my thoughts.

The point is that if it is to replaced with a more modern V8 it would be more logical to try and do so with a British engine rather than German, Japanese or American. That is why I was discussing 'British' in relation to the replacement.

The Rover engine is 50s technology and and withoput spending enormous sums where you are still just putting lipstick on a pig in modern terms there question is whether there is something from the very late 20th early 21st century which could be fitted and still deemed to be relatively true to the cause by both being a V8 and also British.

I guess you could search Buick employment records for the late 40s and see if there is anyone called Claus or Hans in the R&D dept.
