A friend i met on FerrariChat is interested in getting a Typhon or Tuscan into the US. She is currently restoring an old Lamborghini so definitely has the skills to rebuild one.

However, she needs someone over here to dismantle and ship the parts out to her, so she can register the car as a 'homebuild' or similar. In the same way Ultimas are done.

Just posting to see if any mechanics etc would be interested. It sounds like she's got the money, its just the people she needs now.

Be careful.

There have been cases (which TVR have won) to stop people doing this.

Claire

no idea of the details though.

Hiya Gaffer, and thank you for the info.. I am curious why the factory would care about a single owner trying to get their car to the US... foreign nationals can simply ship one over and while visiting the US have it here..as long as when they leave the car leaves with them. .. I'm a former TVR owner(series 200 Griffith) and a serious car nut... I can understand why they would worry if someone was converting them and making money off the cars... Liability claims for one would probably make TVR's attorneys anxious.. but this is a market they are showing some interest in reentering... being in that playstation2 game and the movie swordfish apperantly with the factory's endorsement has drummed up interest among people who never had a clue what a TVR is, I'm not suggesting the factory help someone like me look for ways around the rules..that might cause snags in the future when they do reenter the US market.. but I am rather surprised that they would go to court to prevent it too... How about helping people with money in hand find a way to work withing the law?...Jaguar actually HELPED a few people over here work out a way to legally import the XJ220 to the US...anyone know why TVR has gone to court in the past? I love the cars, I'm not looking to annoy the whole company... I just want to throw a whole buch of money at finding a solution for a fan of the marque over here who had an old TVR.. and really really wants a new T440R or Typhon, without having to move across the atlantic..

I think Jaguar were so helpful cos they couldn't shift the XJ220s for love or money.

People have exported TVR's out there on a special licence, Faisal (www.pistonheads.com/members/showProfile.asp?memberId=244) has had quite a few now.

The thing TVR object to is the dismantaling of the cars, I can't remember the details but the cars were broken down into parts, put in a container to ship out there..I think the end purpose was to put their own brand on the TVR and sell as a Kit/homebuild. But I could be wrong about that part.

Best bet is to check with the factory - IIRC Its easter though this week so wont be there on Friday or Monday.

Would you want a LHD or RHD Typhon? (Don't know if TVR has already stated they want to build LHD Typhons.)
