Insurance for the very heavily modded TVR's
Discussion
I am interested in this too for when i come back on the road next Spring.
I was formerly insured with Adrian Flux as they were the only reasonable quote at the time and covered my nitrous system.
Having read comments on here and getting a renewal quote 50% higher i am looking for alternatives.

Mannings and Sunninghill (now called something else I believe) both Insured my road-legal Griff race car and now the road-legal Tuscan Racer.
Base their premiums on % over power = % increase in premium.
Both are under £500 for 5000 miles with track / business use for full value cover. But then I am old, live in a Somerset field and have 200 years ncb
With Mannings again now for the Tuscan. You can't get much more modded than those two!

I went with Mannings for my std Griff ...they were very reasonable and inc TVRCC Track days.
When I asked about future mod's they stated they would need to see before and after dyno readings as the new premium would be calculated on BHP gains above std.
It's well documented that very few cars make anywhere near the factory numbers even with a few mods...so surely increased premiums should only kick in after 320bhp + on a Griff 500 is achieved?
And what about mods that make the car safer, ie better shocks and brakes...surely that should qualify for a reduced premium??
I won't hold my breath

% gain is from actual, ie normal 500 = 260, so my 370 was calculated from that.
'spose the had to do that or many std 500s would getting money back!
improvements for braking/suspension were considered "required". If you bolt on an SC power charger and don't do the brakes...I'd guess they won't entertain you.
Major mods are liked to be from a specialist (Dulfords, TVRpower etc) or an egineers report MAY be required. Particularly for an agreed valuation.
From my experience anyway.

I found the same as you Andy - a heavily modded car seems to require a report for agreed value, but wasn't required for normal cover. Mine makes exactly "standard power", but they wouldn't let me get away with saying that.
I'm fairly young for a Griff owner but have owned a TVR for quite a long time. Mannings quoted a good price - very much less than my Impreza costs me.

Well I think I fall in to the heavily modded camp in a major style.
Aplan would insure me but it was going to be very very expensive.
I spoke to a mate who put me in touch with a broker, my list of mods were pretty big so I ended up sending them the link to the conversion of the car on Pistonheads and also the Topcats site and I also detailed mods that I thought might not be on there. This way I knew I was fully covered and I di not have to worry that something had been missed.
The company was PACE WARD, I will send you a PM with his numbers

Sunninghill are now called Jelf and have TVR specific policies with an amazingly sensible approach to modifications in my experience.
