Herman the german built it. It was very fast and as far as I know it does still exist but over in Asia.

From memory having asked a similar question since seeing some footage from Macau (PH'er Roop may have this still/ know more?) 800-900kilos, 500bhp Cosworth power, side exit exhausts with an appetite for flames and generally an absolute monster of a car!

Possibly, I have aquired an S3 body shell..

From research so far, Light shell, modified S3 chassis to take group A spec YB turbo, Hewland FBG transaxle with double wishbone rear suspension.

Only watched <10 minutes so far. Cool vid. Green E-type guy (club pres) comes off as a bit of an asshat. Almost like "if they make me look fat in this cat, we'll DQ 'em." OK, I'm partly kidding but I really don't get why anyone who goes faster than 2:35-2:40 would get DQd. Help me understand. I do love this race for being all I could ever hope for.

What's with the cryptic flash of the men behind the scenes @ 12:56?

Hi Graham,

I've come across an old CCC article which typically goes into the spec a little more than other mags - have you got that yet? If not I'll scan it next wk. They tested the car at Oulton Park straight after the Macau win.

No chassis pics but talks about Penske F1 uprights, magnesium calipers, jack knight 2-turn magnesium steering rack, very special bellhousing with extra bearings for the prop running at engine speed 8000rpm .

Impressive final weight of 790kg considering it was based on production chassis!

Journalists seem to be able to get away with a lot less research than writers. Penske ran F1 last in '77. I suspect they were Penske shocks. Where those available in '87? The only reason I mention this is because it would have been weird to reach into a ten year old, overseas parts bin.

I see what you mean, but it was Penske uprights front & rear not dampers, and it seems that was what Chris Schirle was familiar with according to the interview, from his previous experience with Formula Ford and Sports 2000 and he concluded;

'... the Penske upright dimensions suited the geometry we'd drawn out and absolved us going to special castings.'
