please help tvr info!

hallo all i have had a 4l chim tvr for about a year now and it has this little annoying bleep when driving under 3000 revs or between 20/40mph.
i have spent £300 on new leads plugs filters had it timed and tuned again, after doing a bit of asking around i have been told it is the distributor and the factory ones where rubbish, and that I need a Mallory one?? they are about £400 lot of money to spend if this is not the problem any one have any ideas? thanks in advance. andy

Annoying bleep? Do you mean a sound? Or a blip?

Apart from a number of owners who have removed the distributor altogether in favour of mapped ignition, the vast majority of these cars retain it, and it certainly isn't "rubbish".

Blackpool is still home to a number of TVR specialist businesses: I'd suggest you take it to one of them for diagnosis. That will work out a lot cheaper than trying to cure it by serially renewing parts that might be the culprit.

hi mate thanks for reply, the bleep is a slight stutter when drive'n it feels like its almost miss fireing but not, if that makes sense!!, i have already seen tvr spec man he changed leads etc and tweaked things(does idle now lot better than it did after this) still not right though, he tried diffrent mapping chip!? when we changed filters etc the engine had a lot of carbon in it so clean bested we could but problem still there, i have looked over history and there was a new cam in 2008 (3.9 efi land rover cam kit).

As far as I'm aware TVR cams differ from the standard LR one's so I'd suggest unless the mapping was changed at the time of the cam change there'll probably be some mismatch.

Hi had a similar problem on my Chimaera.
It was the plug leads touching the heat shield on the underside of the bonnet.
It caused a short.
Look for small burn marks on the leads and shield.

Fix was only to tidy up the lay of the leads.

Is this a continuous stutter or an intermittant one?
Is it a momentory hesitation on cruise like its about to cut out but then carries on like nothing just happened? If so and its inermittant, then this is an issue i have had with mine for years, and has finally been resolved. It turned out to be the main earthing point above the transmission tunnel on the LH side below the dash this is the main earth for the ECU/ Dash etc and my bolt had a stripped thread and wasn't staying spanner tight.

SC Power recommend Green Giants on the 500 conversions, But i already had the Later type Bosch Redtops which have suprised Mark Adams in that they are coping with 450-460 ish bhp and staying within about 90% peak duty cycle.
