On my way home today I got a bit frustrated with the stop-start traffic on the M25. To pass the time I started playing with the engine note and generating lots of lovely pops and burbles. This worked well until the traffic freed up a bit, but I was still surrounded by people who thought that 50mph was the speed to go despite there being half a mile of clear road in front (and growing).

Much to my shame I kind of lost it and dropped a couple of cogs mainly so that I could nip into any gap that appeared to start making some progress. The effect was instantaneous! The chap covering my rear offside quarter dropped back, I pulled out, and three drivers in front pulled in clearing my way.

I had a bit of a giggle (and some self admonishment, 'cause it's not really unaggressive driving is it?) and went on my way.

Half an hour later a chap in a Eurobox pulls out in front of me doing at least 20mph less and doesn't even start to move alongside the car he's come from behind. So I drop a couple of cogs and he instantly shifts back and on I go.

The moral? It might not be big or clever, but 4.5 litres of roaring V8 can shift these prats (and I didn't get within 20 yards of any of them).

I get the same effect when I ride the Triumph I have with the loud pipe.

I don't get the same traffic clearing ability with my 2 other bikes (with standard exhausts), even if one of them is a Blackbird

Louder = Safer, in my experience.

Your Miles May Vary.
