Ah, the pertinent word here is 'girlfriend' (ie not wife).
So the answer is simple (and
, this is the answer I would give):
"Because the Griff is mine, not 'ours', so 'we' can't sell it to buy something sensible. Only I can sell it. And I'm not. If you want a sensible car, I'll help you buy one, how much can you afford?"

Corinne - what a sensible reply.
My first thought was 'girlfriend' - offer to trade her in. See how she likes that.
If my partner had not liked the car then I would not be spending as much time with him. As I would be off doing Griffy things without him. Not sure if it is a good thing that he loves the car, keeps checking it out for improvements he can do!!!! there again he is very good at doing them for me.

It's a quandary, isn't it?
I was spoilt, because my ex had his own TVR. What do you do next though? If I found someone who loved it, that would be tricky, because this is one area where I'm not prepared to share (I will resist the 'our car' syndrome with every bone of my body - I saved for it, I earned it, I bought it, it's mine).
If I found someone who hated it, what on earth would he do on his own at the weekends while I was out to play with either the Car Club or PH?

No car issues in our relationship.
In fact we actively encourage spending money and time on the cars. Equally.
