Battery conditioner

I would ideally like to put a battery conditioner on my Griff over winter as it gets used less, I have them on the other 3 but I seem to remember someone having a fire due to there being an issue with the wiring.

Now on the others they either plug into the cigar lighter or wire onto the battery.

If I do it on the TVR then I suspect I would do it on the battery itself rather than the cigar lighter.

I have a spare ctek from my old 2.7rs so I know it works just don't fancy a fire as all the cars are in a barn / garage together.

Has anyone any positive or negative views on these

Currently also looking to get a conditioner to use on my Griff...was intending to buy a Ctek 4003 and use it via the cig lighter socket so would be very interested to hear of any potential fire issues.

Can a fuse be fitted to the 12v lead on the charger ?

I use the accumate charger, as do many on here. Just use the cigarette socket and it works a treat.

My Griff lives on a trickle charger plugged in thru the lighter socket. As soon as I put the car in the garage, it gets plugged in immediately. For the 4 month winter layup, it is permanently plugged in. I've now had the Griff for 11 years and no problem ........ yet!

I use the lighter socket on my Tuscan 2.

The dealer recomended it as the way to do it.

Why wouldn't you?

I just prefer a direct connection to + and -.... that way I know for sure it's all working as it should...

I think I'm about to invest in an Accumate type system. A word of warning though - I had a cheap trickle charger from a well known car accessory store on my S3. One day it managed to short out some how, and some grease or something next to the battery terminal caught fire about 30 seconds after I switched it on. Fortunately I was still messing around in the garage at the time, so I yanked the lead out before any damage was done, but it shows that accidents can happen!

I've been using one of these hooked up to my S2 for the last 11 years. Wired to the battery via a pluggable fused link. No problems.

Maybe overkill for topping my battery up between hoons, but I live in dread of having to get into that battery compartment in the footwell!
