Speedo weirdness
Discussion
Several weeks back I had a problem with the speedo - intermittently it would either work or not work. Took it to Steve Howard who diagnosed a faulty sender which he replaced. This solved the intermittent problem but now the speedo doesn't read correctly when I'm going between about 50 and 90mph. Between these speeds it reads way too high, something like this:
Actual (est) / Indicated on speedo
0-50 / 0-50
50 / 80
60 / 100
70 / 120
80 / 160
90 / 90
100 / 100
etc
Steve said that it must be a problem in the speedo head unit because if the new sender was sending wrong data that would also be causing problems with the ECU. So I removed and sent the speedo unit off to Speedy Cables to have it recalibrated. They've just sent it back after thorough bench testing and said there's nothing wrong with it. I've reconnected it and the problem is still there.
I will be taking this up with Steve next week, but interested in PHers advice on what the actual problem here could be.
Cheers
Don
