Ok some ( sorry most) dont put skirts on our Sagarisis or Neon Washwipers on our Wedges but a majority of us like to Fiddle with motors just like the Maxpower brigade.
It gets to me a bit when some people on here Take the Pi$$ out of them because most of us probably tried to jazz there Mrk1 Astra up of Ford Escort etc etc and in the light of how bloody hard it is to get Insured on abything over 750cc at 18 I for one can understand why they do it, Can you??
Ok some of them look a mess but some have been worked on alot Just like you do on Your Chimpera and these guys probably dream of owning what we have and maybe will be an owner one day too.
They put a Cherry bomb on we Stick a sports Exhaust on.
They put huge Alloys on.. ahem so do we.
They Upgrade the lights.... Me too
Suspension and brakes, Both aswell, along with any power gains you can get out of There 1.2 but we do it with a 4.5 0r 5.0ltr I think they justify wanting more power than you??
Flex paint
Yep both again.
Theres a few other likenesses I am sure so think next time you take the Pee.
What do you think???
Are we just exotica MPists

Having proudly owned a beach buggy with flames down the side when a student, the urge to stand out from the crowd is the same for us as the Power lads (and lasses). Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and I look at some of the cars, and irrespective of whether they are my taste or not, you have to admire the skill, time and money employed to build some of their creations. The attention to detail on the best is often stunning, and that's where I think we are the same. Trying to acheive the wow factor from our respective cars, and the head-turning stares.
Shut up moaning you puff
I know a few TVR owners who don't know what an overhead camshaft is, any more than plenty of the Lax crew do. Difference is that the TVR crowd have (or find) more disposable to spend on their bling (30 grand Clios excepted
) to hide the fact...

Its not necessarily how they dress up their cars that give them their bad names, its more of their attidue towars their so called street racing life styles. Yes, some of their cars are utter crap and some are respectable. But put the cars to the side and compare the people driving them. Most of the lax power brigade think driving is constantly speeding and reving as high as they can all the time and burning out to look cool, and so on. They just generally think its ok to act like that since they have their "special cars" Granted, many phers do speed a lot and drive like a c***, but they dont know who to respect being able to drive, and owning a car like they do. And from what I have read recently we wont go out and burn the tires at every chance and be a nuisance just to impress people.

I agree with most of what has been said here.
BB - Thats what I have always thought. We are all car enthusiasts.
TimW - sumed it up good there. There are a few distasteful TVRs out there too though. Some people find reflex Tuscans an eyesore.
Brian the Yank - They can be a pain in the arse, especially the little twat that pulls up in his clio in my street with his stereo on so loud I can here which song it is whilst in my house with the windows shut! Wouldnt bother me if he didnt sit there with it on for 10 minutes.
There are probably a few annoying Tiv drivers out there to match it though. Its all about consideration. I believe only 1% of the population have any.
O/T: I dont warm my car up on the driveway but my neighbours recently said "please do, it sounds lovely"

I think the main point is 'polishing a turd'. All you do is spread the sh1t around and get dirty. Take 1 Nova and and some horrendous body git, lower to 1 cm from the tarmac (and make the already shite handling even worse) and then act like a prat.
I'm all for modifying your car to make it different/faster/better but pick something vaguely decent to start with (newer Fiestas at least handle well). Oh yeah, and don't add some massive rear spoiler to a FWD car. What's the point?

I agree with BB.
My sons love cars and would give their right arm to have a TVR. but the insurance on even the smallest of cars is horrendous.
I have recently been quoted £2200 for a Peugeot 205 G reg 998 cc. no frills car, where the hell does my 17 year old get that money from?
I have just bought a new Peugeot 206 and while changing the insurance over I casually said, oh how much to add my son to that. That'll be £7500. ok it is a 1.4, but it is bog standard.
If you could have seen the pleasure the corsa gave my eldest I do not think you would have so much of a pop, we were all young once!
Anyway he is growing up now and has designs on loftier motors. (I have to keep the Griff keys with me at all times!).
Leave them alone and they will move on to tastier motors or slide back to 'normal' motoring. (whatever that means!).
Now bad driving, that really makes me mad

I agree. They're not doing anyone any harm and the result is either (a) it looks pretty good, and its always nice to see a good looking car or (b) it looks like it was dropped down the stairs and put back together in the dark, in which case it gives me a laugh.
Says he who's getting new wheels and window tinting....

An interesting perspective from a 'younger person' who by his own admission hangs around with the Pax Mower crew but owns a Caterham:

Yes folk i must admit to something it is shameful i know but i also mix with the saxo dazza lot being a youngish thing.
There is a few twats in the hot hatch brigade but they mostly love cars as we do and the few i have taken out in the 7 have seen them in a new light a few think it is stupid but many more are impressed.
Any way below is what i posted on their forum for their amusement and hopefuly yours
Okay as some of you might know i don't own a cruisers car i own that starnge little caterham thing
Now how does the world of caterhams compare with the world of cruisers
In caterham circles 13" alloys rule unless you get 13" magneziums 14"s are okay and 16" are just stupid. You care about alloy design we care about tyre componds
You throw out your spare to get a sub in there we throw out our spare cause it wieghs to much
While both cruisers and caterhams talk Bhp we also talk Kg the less the better. we consider turbos to be bad because of lag and nitrous not even thought about well apart from a few select nutters who have 700Bhp per ton.
Body modifications not much for the caterham but what there is is in carbon fibre not just for looks but for wieght. While yu compare bodykits we compare grams
ICE we have an exhaust you have 100kg of mdf and speakers.
You have flat screen tellys we flat floor our cars.
YOu hear LSD you think drugs we think doughnuts.
We both like illegal number plates We both try to avoid the bill
We both have a good social side to it. You have sound offs we have sprints. You do cruises we do track days.
You tint your windows we take ours off and wear a crash helmet
We both like good paint jobs and occasionally spend to much time polishing.
We both find the reactions of the genral public amusing. You should come for a drive in the caterham and see how many looks you get in one of those
We both hate speed bumps you got spoliers to ground we got sumps to dent. We both hate caravans ( doesn't everyone)
You take your heater vents out a spray them pretty colours we take our heaters out and leave them in the garage
We both like big exhausts but you worry about how many back boxes you got we worry that we aren't too loud for track days ( well in england they do knockhill don't care)
But to end it we are all petrolheads and lovers of cars.
P.S. the Bmw does have 2 big amps, a 12' dual voice coil sub and a kick arse head unit

But i dont think you need to do anything to TVRs to achieve the wow factor - they already have it
. Also in terms of resale value and potential resaleability, i know when i was looking for mine i would'nt go anywhere near a heavily modded one - give me a natural good looking motor anyday - OK, so possibly with a few subtle mods
