Cerbera or stick with 2 seats in the Tuscan?

Over the last couple of months I have been thinking about my Tuscan and whether it will be suitable for me as a keeper.
To cut a long story short I only have the one car, the Tuscan, as I cycle to work and the misses commutes to the city, I will buy her an economic runabout somepoint soon when required but she hasn't even passed her test yet!
Anyway time is nigh.... marraige, kids and all that stuff will be on the agenda soon
and I will need a 4 seater for myself and one for the misses.
I don't want a 3 car household (me with the Tuscan, a four seater plus the misses with a runabout), as I cannot justify it, at the moment I only drive around 4000 miles per yer in my Tuscan as my main vehicle.
I want to continue in TVR ownership as out of all the vehicles I have ever owned I have got on best with my Tuscan, power is right, it feels right, it looks right, it sounds right, it responds right.... basically been 'right' up my street
So should I think about selling up and getting a Cerb?
Will I like a Cerb?
Has anyone else here done the same and did they regret it?
Has anyone traded for a Cerb for this reason and found that the kids never get in it so should have stuck with a 2 seater?

Nothing has changed in regards to your lifestyle so why are you considering changing?

I've done it twice - both times from a Chim to a Cerb. I guess if you are a sp6 fan then the sp6 Cerb is the one for you in terms of driveability and every day use.
My only reason I got rid of my first Cerb was due to the fact I was worried for the kids safety - not due to my driving but the incompetency of other drivers.
The things I hate about the Cerb.... The long doors in confined spaces, the mess the kids make in the back (nowt to do with my driving before you ask) and the fact they hate me driving with the windows open (a must for the cerb)
Oh just to add that I'm totally biased! But I also love the Tuscan

I had a Tuscan then moved to a SP6 Cerbera.
The reason I moved was that we had just had twin boys and while they were baby's I didn't take them out in the Tuscan, well I couldn't I was a seat short!!. But as they got older 3-4 I wanted to take them out with me and the Tuscan was never going to be practical. So I also had your delema, do I stick with the Tusc and be selfish and leave the wife and kids at home and go about on my own.(not a bad option by the way!!) or sell up and get a Cerb or something else...... I decided to sell up, thinking I had scratched the itch with TVR.....WROOOOONG!!. I was on pistonheads every night from the day I sold the Tuscan but this time I wanted a CERBERA it's the only way I could justify a TVR. Now I loved the Tuscan it was a good one, no issues whatso ever (yes NO ISSUES)it was well looked after by previous owners and by me, It looked great and I loved getting the roof of and hearing those CCC pop and bang!!.
I ended up getting a SPEED Six Cerb whitch ticked all the boxes and go out regular with the kids,they love coming in the TVR, and always want dad to take them to school in it and anywhere else we are going. So It has been a great purchase for me. I get to enjoy the TVR , Kids get to come with dad and enjoy the TVR and Mum comes along too, not too sure she enjoys it as much mind you!!
I also have a company car so I only use the Cerb on good days and weekends about 4k miles a year but I think this helps to keep the sense of occasion around it allows me to keep it in good nick without bursting the bank ...too much!!
The Speed Six Cerbs are great value at the moment cheaper than the equivalent year Tuscans and you get a newer car for your money than the same priced V8. The Speed Six Cerbs are moked by the V8 willy wavers but most have never driven one and with you having had a Tuscan you will know how good these engines are.
There are great things being done with the Speed six interms of upgrades at the moment and that gives me lots of confidence in this platform for thre future.
Between the Tuscan and the cerb I would say the Tuscan is a bit more RAW/ twitchy but the Cerbs is not tame OHH no it is an animal but in SP6 form it can doodle around town very easilly but get it on the open road and it all kicks of. If I didn't have the Kids I would have kept the Tuscan no problem!! but now I have the Cerb I am more than happy with the change,both are GREAT cars and I hope I have the Cerb for a LONG TIME TO COME!!

You want to change your Tuscan for a Cerb becuase marriage and kids are a possibility...
You don't have kids yet and i assume you still have at least another 9 months of driving a TVR that you know and love.
If you had kids then I could understand.

loved the Tuscan, Cerb is more than a replacement for it - I did go a little mad and got rid of the Tuscan while Mrs C was pregnant - junior is 4 months old and he hasn't been for a drive yet......so you could easily hang on to it for another year.
incidentally I went 4.5 in the Cerb......you kind of have to!

Erm..... this is exactly what I have (TVR Cerbera, family car, my work runabout), plus 3 motorbikes ........ what do you need to justify???? Not thinking of joining GreenPeace, are you???? 
In response to your question over whether the kids will like it - I have had my Cerbera for over 2 years now. As writen in a post on Cerbera forum "why did you get a Cerbera" ( http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a... )I was initially after a Tuscan, but decided that it wouldn't get used much so right at the last minute switched my search to a Cerbera. At the time my kids were 1.5 and 3, they are now 3.5 and 5 and have always LOVED going in "Daddy's sportscar". Both of them ask if they can go in the "sportscar" to whatever we are doing at the weekends, and the infamous "TVR popping out for a pint of milk" 50 mile round trip for me is "taking the lad out to get an ice-cream" which results in a 50 mile round trip of Derbyshire. On the way out it's "go faster Daddy" and "overtake that car"....... and who am I to disappoint my son?
For those with a young family - means that you can have your pure unadulterated TVR thrills when you are on your own; yet it can be used as family transport at weekends!
Look on the Cerbera forum for advice on baby and child seats. For a young baby the only way is to put the rear facing baby seat in the front seat (I didn't do this due to age of my 2); then the Recaro Start child seat gets
from me and lots of other Cerb owners.I abolutely love my Cerbera - for me it's a keeper - waited a long time to get a TVR and for me it's just about perfect - I couldn't see what else to replace it with that would combine the performance, thrills, good looks, and 2+2 practicality.
Having said that, I'd also love a Tuscan too........ now THAT would be hard to justify for me at the moment!!!
Why don't you try a test drive in a few to get a feel for whether you'd like one or not? As other posters have pointed out - if you already like the S6 engine, then a S6 Cerbera could make sense - and they are about £2-3 K cheaper than an equivilent age / mileage AJP engined car. But also suggest that you drive an AJP Cerbera as well. I find mine tractable and drivable in traffic (been through Central London traffic a few times, and I live in city (well, Sheffield anyhow) so gets used in traffic a bit - but when you open the taps - it comes alive. Has been described as akin to 2 superbike engines strapped together, and as it's a flatplane crank that's not a bad description. Decent enough pull at low revs, getting into it's stride as you roar past 4K, then pulls like a train as it howls towards the rev "beep" at about 7 K - wholely addictive, as is the snap crackle and pop of the overun (4k down to 3k my favourite in mine....).

As said I have lots of respect for the speed 6, I feel it is a great engine, however I wouldn't limit myself to only speed6 cerbs as I have never owned an AJP8 so difficult for me to make a comparison, I find the clutch very easy in the Tuscan and would have no problem moving to a stiffer clutch as have heard about the Cerb as its all horses for courses.
With regards to my earlier comment about justifying having 3 cars, it not because I am a secret member of greenpeace
but more the fact that at the moment 4,000 miles a year covers all my needs so don't need to have 2 cars, and why on earth would I go out in the eurobox when I have a TVR on the drive??

I had the very great pleasure of 'babysitting' a Tuscan for extended periods (months) for 3 consecutive years and I bloody loved it. The Tuscan turns more heads than the Cerbera in my experience and to drive is a dream.

I agree with pretty much everything that's been said above. I was in a similar position but it seemed 'sensible' to buy a Cerb as well! Love them both.

hi i know where you're coming from i used to own a 4.3pre cat griff now i have 2 kids and a road legal almost full race spec davrian in the garage unfortunately it has only 2 seats and after extending our house i only had enough cash left for an old 944 which the kids love but now i'm back i have recently bought a red cerbera 4.2.after i bought it and arrived home my 5 year old son heard it pull the drive he appeared at the door and said WOW I LIKE THAT!!!!after a short blast down a local A road 3 up both kids were shouting AGAIN AGAIN!!!!go for it you wont regret it
