Think very carefully before plumping for the XKR..... my wife and I sold our XK8 cabrio..... for a Chimaera!
In the first six months it was in the dealer for FOURTEEN weeks getting virtually everything replaced, and it had previous already had a new engine.... £12500 worth of warranty bills.
Plus I'm six foot two, and the wife is five foot ten, and neither of us could ever get totally comfortable in the car - the seat backs were too short, and the roofline (in the cabrio at least) too low, so we always ended up with stiff necks and backs after about half an hour of driving.
So we wnet for TVR thinking that even the horror stories of TVR unreliability would be childs play to us after the Jaguar - plus we both have heaps of headroom, and while the ride is harsher, the comfy seats more than make up for it.
Seriously, the XKR is a fantastic car, but do make absolutely sure you're both totally comfortable in it, and that you have a huge all encompassing warranty at your disposal.

Mate of mine has an XKR, owned it from new 2 years ago and its been back to jags on and off for 18 months of the 2 years he has owned it, he"s keeping the car because he has a soft spot for it but has just bought an SL55 AMG to compensate. Try one of these if the budget allows or an SL500 will be more than enough for her if the extra 30k for the AMG is beyond the budget.

Point out that everything is relative. For example, how bad is being slightly uncomfortable in a £50,000 sports car compared to living on the breadline?....

Some years ago I tried being poor and I decided that I did not like it. In this country, provided one has reasonable health, there is no need to live anywhere near a bread line.

I think that's a bit of an over-simplification. Even if one has good health there are many other factors that can make it very hard to be successful, for example having disabled family members to look after, being made redundant, etc.
However, this is all a bit deep for this topic so let's keep making suggestions to answer your original post!
