What is Hydratrak?

I've seen this quite a lot in the optional extra's lists. But what is 'Hydratrak' anyway?

Hydratrack is to proper LSDs what a mush box is to a proper gearbox. Basically with Hydratrack the two wheels are connected together by a viscous coupling instead of a friction plate. Result is it doesn't do anything until you have a significant amount of wheelspin, which is (IMO) the *wrong* answer. Almost like driving a standard open diff and made for some rather unpredictable handling. Conventional friction plate diff is far more predictable, gives more traction and is altogether nicer to drive.

I'm confused. If its inferior, how come its offered as an extra-cost option by TVR?

Or to put it another way, what is its perceived advantage? Why do TVR offer it?
