Anyone had any joy with Independent Garage?

Can anyone offer advice on dealing with an independent?
I have used them a few times now because i couldnt do the job my self.
I needed a top end rebuild on my Tuscan 4.0 due to finger followers, first time i took the engine out my self
handed it over because i didnt know the timing marks. Got it back after a new top end fitted.
Ran it in for 1000 miles came back for a oil change and it was tapping badly.
I was told it was little ends!
I took the car away and removed the cover to find again !! yes ! finger followers.
All due to them leaving the front bolt out of the oil way pumping the oil to the follower tubes.
I nearly left the car with them for a rebuild at a cost of £7000.
If i hadnt removed the rocker cover my self i would of had my pants pulled down.
I'm sure as experts this was a mistake !!! ;-)

Like any garage they will have a fan base and also some who have had bad experiences. There will also be the odd customer (not suggesting that you are one) who has a bad experience thats more to do with them than the garage.
The test is, IMHO, how the garage then deal with the bad experiences and putting the customer back in a positive place. Please do let us know how they resolve this situation.
Some garages, however, do have more than their fair share of 'bad experiences'. Some even then do a Phoenix which suggests poor business ethics in my view.

I doubt he's shocked, maybe shocked that i said something on here.
I dont mind people making a mistake, but out right lying to make money
on a rebuild and save the cost of putting a bad top end rebuild right.
If he would of put his hands up and said sorry Paul we've messed up i
would be more than happy, but to say what he did was out of order.

Don't worry its Ok to be ripped off on PH's as long as you don't mention who it was,apparently in these instances on PH's the victim is always mistaken.
Learn about libel laws then and how much it can cost PH for hosting libelous statements, because if proven it costs PH a lot and has done. So it's best to not do it thanks. Oh and the person who made the statement on a previous case is also paying lots of money for writing it.I'm not saying that is the case here, but in the rules of posting which everyone accepts when joining it clearly states no defamatory postings. So in removing such naming we are not only protecting PH and the poster but also abiding by our own written rules.
So we are protecting the victim, protecting them from losing a large sum of money in legal costs.

Call me cynical, but a business protecting its "customers"? That's a new one on me. The only thing any business is interested in is protecting itself. It would be nice if they were honest about it. Anyway, I've used the business in question without any problems with their workmanship, although I personally know at least one person who was very dissatisfied. Out of interest, what does Haymarket do about preventing the sort of spurious comments that has so harmed the credibility of sites such as Trip Adviser? (I'm thinking the fabricated positive stuff now).
If you want to post negative comments about a person or company to try and make others aware of the pitfalls it is best you do it like a review. eg.
"After my experiance with XYZ123 Ltd on the 01/01/01 I would rate them as follows.
customer service - 1/10
Quality of workmanship - 2/10
Accurate quote 8/10
etc.....
My Conclusion is I would not use them again!
you can't say "I would not recommend you to use these people" you have to leave others to make up their own mind based on your review.
This cannot be seen as liable.

Why would you take your just bought Tamora there even if your friend works there..... I have used them a few times now because i couldnt do the job my self.

Said it many times you cannot "slag" a business or company off after a bad experience or whatever because of libel but when they were running many people would slag off TVR the company, the cars, the workmanship, the engines, the management, etc etc on here all the time, I could never understand the reasoning???

In fact the same can be said about most car manufacturers on here.

I'm not going to get into a long drawn out debate on this as it's been thrashed to death so many times, the rules are generally that we watch out for the little guys that could and have their reputation, business and income effected by what is posted on these forums.
I have been a moderator on these forums for over 8 years, in Ted's rein and now in Haymarket's, the guidelines set out by Ted many moons ago still stand and can be read here.

We have a tendency to be a little more lenient towards the big boys regarding the N&S ruling as most regard critisism as a form of customer feed back, and when Joe Blog says I think BT are a pile of C:sensered:P it will probably not matter one jot.
Ted and his teams of TVR moderators were always removing contentious posts and threads that were directed at the TVR company & TVR personnel, in fact IIRC we used to take his lead on the vast majority of N&S problems as he was the only one who really knew how detremental it could be to his business.
I have removed 1000's of N&S issues during my time on the site, many in the TVR forums, very many of these were dealt with before anybody picked them up on the forums.
So the ruling stands no naming and shaming for the reasons that FWD published earlier it just get too expensive for all parties concerned.
As an aside WE moderators don't like it anymore that you do at times, but the rules apply to us all.

I used the garage you're talking about (saw your post before the mod edit) and would never use them again. The work was done poorly, service items missed and the bill was sky high for the amount done.

I have been contacted by another PH'er who is going through Court preceedings
at present with a similar experiance to Zippee's.
It may be beneficial to speak to the affected PH'er,off thread of course, as he may have some usefull pointers on how to deal with the situation.
