Would you let a friend drive your TVR

Following on from a thread I read in GG, would you be comfortable letting a friend drive your TVR?

A few of my friends are eager to rive mine but thus far have not let them anywhere near the drivers seat.

I am tempted to let a couple of my good friends drive her but only after i've fully warmed her up first.

My ex girlfriend drove my Cerb around the block, but I don't think she got above 20mph.

Wouldn't let any of my lad friends anywhere near it.

they would have to be highly trusted. I can only think of probably 2 friends I would let drive my chim. other than that, no, despite other friends having experience of high powered cars I know of someone who got screwed over when a 'friend' crashed his car when he let him drive it.

I'm surprised. I've let a number of my friends drive my TVRs - it's one of the joys of owning it (and spreads the word!). Just make sure they're insured.....

I know someone who had this experience too. His "mate" rolled his pretty brand new VW beetle... oopsy


I've let my mates drive my previous cars no problem but now i have the TVR it's a different kettle of fish. Obviously the car has no driver aids, and when you let someone else drive they will want to feel the perfomance (that's only natural).
They will be used to having TC and ABS etc... so their driving style will suit this. But, then i think these cars do need to be appreciated and so want others to feel / experience how special these cars are.

I think i'll let them, eventually, but only after a pep talk first.

I let my mate drive mine when we went to Le Mans to share the driving. The previous year we went in his Elise, so only fair. I was a bit nervous when we went through the worst storm i have ever been in with inches of standing water, no visibility etc on way to Le Mans - With him driving. That was scary!

Was in the car with him most of the time, although we all swapped around going for rides in other cars in the convoy (Cobra, Exige).

I would definitely not let anyone drive my TVR without me if they did not have experience of a powerful rear wheel drive car - ideally one with no safety aids.

The majority of my mates i wouldn't let near driving my car.

It depends who it is! I wouldn't let pretty much everyone I know
near it, save maybe a couple who have had experience with powerful RWD cars before. So no I wouldn't unless I had confidence in there ability and more importantly their attitude.

I'd love my Mrs to drive mine but she can't reach the pedals, although strangely she did manage to drive the Griff around the industrial estate when I had that

I would let my best mate drive it but he is so scared of it he wants to take it out on the airfield so he can get used to it before he gets near a road

Very much depends on which friends, there are probably only 2 I would give the chance, and out of that only 1 I would really trust. I would probably have to warm it up for them first though

TVRs are such special cars that it almost feels wrong not to share the experience with others. Having said that, I can only think of a few friends that I would actually trust to drive it.

Best mate has driven mine, not a regular occurence though. Mrs LT has driven the Tam once, because of my moaning about staying away from the curbs, she won't drive it again... shame, not.

I would let a select few drive mine.
I let my best mate do a few laps on a trackday at Croft in my 400SE many years ago.
He went on track with an instructor who said 'if you're going to continue driving like that you may as well let me out here'

The odd PHer drove mine - I was a passenger on all occasions and it was treated with respect and not a little care. I doubt I'd chuck the keys to anyone and say 'Here you go buddy' though.

Hmm, probably yes.

There's a reason for the hesitation. The last time I let a friend drive my TVR - my previous one - he got into an almighty tank slapper, spun through 360 degrees and nearly put it into a crash barrier. We were on a track day at the time, but it could still have been a big bill.

Rather unfairly, I thought, he then declined to let me take his Fiat Panda round the track.

Mrs did drive about 2 miles made a lot of noise and didn't get above 30mph! She drives quick cars for a living so I wasn't worried about her ability just embarrassed by inability to drive the Sag.

There are only two people I would trust to drive mine 'properly'. One's a PHer and the other has plenty of experience of quick cars.

As for the missus she can't even reach the pedals although her being insured on it does lower the premium.

I let my 20 year old nephew drive mine a Castle Coombe last year. I sat by him with a few little tips GO FASTER. I dont mind anybody driving my car as long as it comes back in one piece and they are not stupid with it. Its only a car at the end of the day.

My best friend has driven all of mine (she has a new 911 cabrio and a Cayenne), my MOT examiner is a friend who has driven them all too. Other than that, few and far between. They have to be aware of what the things are or it would be daft to put them at risk.

Oh, I lent Barkychoc one for a while too, but he has a V8S so that's OK
