Sunninghill numpties, hurrah for Mannings!
Discussion
Just received my renewal through this morning for the insurance on the Chimaera, good old Sunninghill telling me that my insurance RAN OUT two days ago!!!
So rang them up and they tell me insurance is going to go up from £450 to £600 this year!!
Tescos £600
Then on to good ole Mannings...
31 yrs
Full no claims, car garaged, 5,000 miles, £15k value.....
£ 347.00!!!

If there is one thing I have learnt about insurance over the years then it is the fact that quotes can vary wildly depending on the input parameters.
In other words, a good quote for you and your car at your place of residence does not guarantee an equally good quote for someone else. So recommendations that say "X is cheap" are worthless.
Even recommendations that say "Y are very prompt at paying out on a claim" are of limited benefit as circumstances differ so much.
In short, Sunninghill will be better for some, Mannings for others.

This thread is great timing;
'Just' got off the phone to Sunninghill to get my renewal quote...(considering I moved from Mannings to Sunninghill as they were £400 cheaper).
My insurance from my Tuscan S (1 year old) has gone from £619 to £851!!!
This is after many Mid-Essex members went over to them following a presentation to us last year...
These insurance companies are just greedy...now I have to find another company that will insure me at a similar rate to last year...don't mind if its £100 up but £250...a bloody joke.
Alan.

Alf, is the new Sunninghill policy still with Sun Alliance?
My quote with Sun Alliance via Sunninghill went up as well but they found me virtually the same policy with Chaucer for the same that Manning's were quoting.
Basically Sunninghill use more than just Sun Alliance for TVRs......

Oooh, not sure that's true. What you call 'these insurance companies' are not actually insurance companies; they're brokers - they are dependent on the quotes given to them by the underwriters (insurance companies). The underwriter uses history data and extrapolates it to assess future risk, and they all do it in different ways, so JohnRB is right, what's cheap for one might not be for another. I for instance have had stunningly good service from Sunninghill, and quotes lower than most quoted on here, whereas Mannings couldn't even be bothered to call me back with a quote. It's the draw you get on the day frankly.
The trend is for all premiums to rise though, and I'm afraid that's because the last two years have seen an incredible rise in claims. TVRs used to be a really good risk, only ever driven by savvy enthusiasts who just didn't crash. That's no longer true though; power outputs have gone up and that attracts a different type of buyer.
If you want to blame anyone for the increase in your quote, you really need to point your finger at all the too-much-money-and-not-enough-skill types buying their first performance car and doing immediate damage with it, resulting in millions of pounds of insurance payouts.
Personally, I thought that Peter Wheeler missed a massive opportunity when the Telegraph wrote the infamous 'safety' article. It wouldn't have taken his minions more than an hour or so to cut a deal with RideDrive for a day's instruction with every new car sold. He could then have claimed that he sold his cars with the most important safety feature of all - a driver trained how to use it
. Just in case PW or assorted hangers-on are reading, this marketing idea is my IPR and I will claim royalties in kind if you use it

Sunninghill did the same to me, received a letter a day before insurance was up... I suppose they leave so late so to pressure you into sighing up for the inevitable premium hike. No excuse for not setting an outlook reminder to chase them a 2 weeks before I know, but still…..
Tescos ended up being cheaper than Sunninghill originally was..

'Tis true - and if you find a savvy broker then they can help you out immensely.
Sunninghill did me proud: suggested dropping my estimate of the value of the car by £500 to achieve a significant drop in premium.

I was lucky, being of nervous disposition I checked up on mine 1 week before it was going expire.

1. Sunninghill was last year's insurer (£580; £250 xs; any trackday). Sent renewal 3 days prior to expiry date (only on my request) (£680; £300 xs; any trackday)
1. Tesco [£705; £400 xs; no trackdays]
2. Direct Line [£520; £400 xs; no trackdays]
3. Classic Line [£991 didn't ask for the rest!!!]
4. Cheam [I didn't try]
5. Sainsbury [won't quote]
Peart was cheapest [£460; £350xs; TVR trackdays only]
Which means I will now have to buy TVRCC membership!!

I know I know...I was just ranting after coming off the phone
Alan.
I got mine from Sunninghill two days after it expired.
It was only calculated two days before it expired and was then sent out second class
When I had my accident, they told me it would be best to sort it myself, then last week I get a letter from Chaucer, the company it is inusred with, asking me to report the accident to them
Tried to call them but the phone line was so cr@p I had to hang up as I couldn't hear the person on the other end.

You haven't got Mannings on that list. Which, given the title of the thread, is a little ironic.
Ahhh, irony, my middle name. Nope didn't put Mannings up; No TVRCC membership meant I won't get a decent quote (and didn't!); Sunninghill (same numpties!)in the title as well
