Noisy power steering!
Discussion
Just fitted a new pump to the chim.
After 200 miles and one T/D it is still really noisy!
It makes a slight noise all the time and makes that "my power steering is shagged" noise when you turn the wheel!
It sounds like air in the pump but if so, how do you remove it?
I have tried the, turn wheel from lock to lock and hold on full lock several times.
Is the new pump useless?

jack the front wheels of the ground and move the steering wheel back and fourth lock-lock with the car not running may take 10 lock to locks to clear the air and leave the cap of the tank as well. you will feel it if its in there. if its smooth after this it is probs just a noisy system my Chims was a little noisy as well but you will hear and feel air in there with the wheels of the ground so this should give you peace of minds its clear of air.

Tried that, still embarassingly noisy!Edited by scotty_d on Saturday 12th March 08:52
I noticed when on full lock and looking in the reservoir, air is bubbling up, but never stops!
It seems it is drawing in air all the time, where from.
I did put a different P/S rack on at the same time as the P/S pump, surely it can't be a problem with the rack, can it?
It would be so good to sort this, just fitted a new water pump this morning and after this problem, there won't be anything left to do, (ha ha).
All fittings seem to be tight.
If there was a loose one, surely I would have a fluid leak as everything is under pressure.
With the resevoir cap off on idle, you can see big bubbles emerge, even without moving the steering wheel!!!!
Logic states that air must be sucking in somewhere, but where.
Is it at all possible there is a fault with the pump?
P/S works well, just hugely noisy!

Tightened up all the unions again at the rack end, still noisy.
Removed new pump, removed double ended fitting from pump to transfer to old pump.
Noticed the built in rubber seal in the pattern pump was goosed.
Old pump didn't have that rubber seal.
Assembled fitting with some PTFE tape, assembled all and guess what, silent power steering
.
Either air was being sucked in or the pattern pump was cr*p!
Either way.................silence at last.
On the way back from the test run, the lights dimmed and brightened, the car started missing at 2/3 revs and it wouldn't restart in the garage.
Alternater putting out plenty, battery reading 11.4v.
Checked the 100 amp fuse, all OK but possibly the screws could have been tighter.
If its not that,.....doncha just love em.?
