Well sorted Wedge or a Chim?

One of my lads is considering a TVR after recently selling his Audi TT. He has use of a company Van so will be used as a second car, so approx 4,000 miles pa.
Now, would you go for a well sorted wedge such as http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/2672172.htm

or a chim such as http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/2607321.htm

Lots of chims about but not many well sorted wedges.

Insurance has been a nightmare, but have so far have managed to get a quote down from well over £3,000 to £900 for limited miles of 4,000pa and 3 years NCD.

He is leaning on the side of wedge ownership at the moment

Tough call, both are great cars. I'd love to add a wedge to the stable - one day maybe. My guess is the Wedge may be cheaper to insure and run, and possibly easier to do a bit of DIY servicing, although the Chimaera is a doddle too.

Also depends if they are keepers or not. Hard call. Either would be fab, I'd be tempted by the Wedge I think.

I don't know much about wedge ownership or running costs, but if your budget is £9-10k i would like to think you can find a well sorted Chim for that money that isn't a money pit. Just carefully check the usual things like the outriggers etc.

Normally when someone posts somthing similar they are trying to spend £6k on a sorted Chim which is going to be harder. Should be plenty of choice of resonable face lift Chims for around £9-10k if you shop carefully. I suspect £12-13k is the level there are a lot more 'very well sorted' (with new suspension, outriggers, cams etc) facelift Chims though...

I've not driven a wedge, so can't comment but i'd be tempted to drive a couple of each to see what i prefer. When i was shopping for my Chimaera i drove an Elise, S2000, Boxster etc and instantly knew which i wanted to get! Actually, i fancied a 4.5 Cerb i drove, but budget couldn't stretch unfortunately!

I've seen that Wedge in the flesh & it was an absolute peach before the resto. It also produces around 280hp (BBWF Rollers) well worth very serious consideration, especially at that price.

Definately a Wedge!

As someone who has recently got into Wedge ownership- a 450SE (BTW-the car is still running wonderfully well Wyn, and attracts admiring looks and great comments everytime I take it out), to go along with my Cerbera I cannot say enough good things about it. I have also had a couple of Griff's in the past but the Wedge is just fantastic and I would have it over a Griff everytime.

It sounds like world war three has just kicked off everytime you start it up, it's far less common a sight on the roads than a Chim (and therefore IMHO) more desirable, and if your budget is allowing you to look at cars such as the one you have mentioned then you won't (or shouldn't) go too far wrong. Personally, I think prices for good Wedges are long overdue a bit of a rise as well, so it's not a bad time to buy.

Of those two, I would have the Wedge. I have a Chimaera, but like the wedges as well. Unless you have a real preference on shape, condition would be the deciding factor and that Wedge looks pretty damm good.

If I did not already have one, that Wedge for cert but its horses for courses. You (he) needs to get up close and personal. Ask if there are any local to you for a look see.

The only place that would insure me on the Tuscan before I was 25 was Adrian Flux they wanted £980 fully comp.

With your budget, and as has been mentioned already, you'd get a well sorted Chimaera.

However, I'd also consider a V8S......just to confuse you further

He is 23. Flux wanted £1647 on a 3,000 mile restriction. Best quote came from Bell, £879 with a 4,000 annual limit. All the other quotes were over £3K

Bloody hell I am glad I started driving a few years earlier I was only paying £800 for a 400bhp Toyota Supra at 22
