Nos kits - £1k
Discussion
Yeah, noticed the ad in Sprint which got me thinking after seeing Craig's Cerb with NOS conversion, at the Fleet Meet last Sunday. If I had a spare 1k.... or would that just be silly. Seems the cheapest BHP per buck.
How much does a Nitros bottle refil cost, where can it be done, and how often does it need filling?

Looks tempting for that price, dont forget though, each time you need to get a new bottle of NOS you'll probably want to get a new clutch as well ![]()
Matt
Craig's installation provides progressive introduction of NOS after (I think) 4k RPM. Therefore clutch may not be strained as much as a push button 'kick' system - a la Mad Max / Gone in 60 secs. That would be really cool though.
Of course, all running gear would need upgrading. Brakes, suspension....etc.

A couple of mates used to have NOS in their Astra GTE, and a Ford Ka
IIRC a fill up was about £40, can't remember where they used to go to get it filled up, a gas retailer I would imagine, and you got about 6 minutes worth of 'max power' out of it, so depending how you drive and how often you use it, about a weeks worth
how long it lasts depends on how big the bottle/s is/are and what size jets your running anything from 10 seconds to 10 minutes on gas is possible.
insurance is the main problem, i found with the Sierra all the companys that would insure it for the road were totaly uncompetative on the car itself
refills average around £3.50 per pound of gas, so again depends on bottle size for how much to refill. If your friendly with your dentist then your laughing - no pun intended
clutch will suffer first.
I've spoken to Trev from highpower (wizard of nos) and on the rover v8, its feasable to to run 2x 100bhp setups with a porgressive controller... you do the math

anyone been keen enough to do this yet to a tiv? real life experiences?
Take a look at cerber450's profile!
having been out in the cerb when under Nos power all I can say is
its rather rapid. craig's cerb was kicking out close to 400bhp before the Nos. Now its just barking

i didn't ask for prices specific to the v8, but for the Sierra you effectively be looking at £500 for the actual kit inc a full bottle and about £400 for the progressive controller.
didn't ask about fitting as i would do it myself as its fairly simple
running that kit i could go to 150bhp jets IIRC.
i would assume if you were running 2 kits the £500 part would double?
basically you could fit the basic kit (without controller) with the standard jets (25bhp) then once its tested and working highpower will sell you bigger jets. i would say 75bhp would be the most to use without the controller... then add the controller later and up the jets.
Trev used to run and SD1 with n20 so knows what he's on about, oh and he was the same guy that gassed up the top gear jag

No expert but I reckon an 8 pot kit wouldnt cost double the price of a 4 pot.
Although you'd need 8 valves (or 16*) instead of 4 (or 8*) youd still only need one main valve and one main controller/button etc. So its probably a little less than double for an 8pot kit.
(* if Nos AND fuel valves are required. Im not sure if they always are, just know that cerber450 has them. I fyou look in sprint I think he said its the red ones for fuel and blue for Nos).

What would be a nice upgrade, is that supercharger installation... like the one used on the Typhon.
No need for refills, and progressive power increase for free
NOS is a little too Fast n Furious.... Supercharge or Turbocharge... these are the upgrades I am hoping will be available in the near future....
Anybody tried that clutchless gearbox upgrade on the Cerbera yet?

you wouldn't need at valves (you mean injectors) for the the rv8
you would use 2 solinoids (fuel and gas) and one crossfire injector in the hose to the plenum just before the TB. if you were using 2 kits you would use 2 injectors at the same place.
the only way you'd need 8 injectors is if you ran was called "direct port" when you have one injector in each inlet track of the inlet manifold (obviously closer to the cumbustion chamber). as the inlet has a commen point (i.e. TB) you simply would need to bother and i'm not sure its would be possible with the standard injecton manifold. if you were running 4 downdraft carbs or individual throttle bodies then you would have to do this.
