Hi

Thinking of buying a helmet for track days this weekend.

Where do you go - a motorcycle place? Anyone got any advice?

Thanks
Jeremy

Based on recent family experience...

Whatever you do make sure it says 'BS6658-85 Type A' or 'SA2000' on the back. There are motorbike helmets, especially European ones, with a European standard (ECE something) that aren't allowable for UK track days. Sorry if you already knew that but I found it the devil's own job to get to the bottom of that - even the MSA and FIA web sites didn't help much.

These people are apparently very helpful, with good stock if you visit and a v.good online catalogue:

Grand Prix Racewear

You only need full face if you are going to drive an open car - the rally style open face helmets are cheaper and some find them more comfortable.

Consider buying a couple of the balaclavas - for no more glamorous reason than to soak up the sweat inside the helmet...

good luck.

PS Your track day organiser might bring some along to sell anyway, has been known, especially if you give them some notice that you are interested.

Thanks for the advice and link (should have searched, i know).

Is there anywhere in or around Leicester where I can get a car helmet rather than a Mb one?

Thanks
Jeremy
