Ignition switch barrel worn. Wiggle the key a bit and see if ignition light comes on.

Do non-ignition circuits like sidelights etc. come on and/or is clock working? If these are ok but there're no ignition lights then it could be the immobiliser.

Check whether there's a live feed getting to the ignition switch, and also check the state of the warning light for the immobiliser if there is one.

Happened to me,could be

1)Dodgy or blown positive fused link which comes off battery

2)Immoboliser probs - disconnect battery for a few mins and then reconnect

luck
