can anyone help

i've just bought a 350i a red one in really nice cond as a rolling resto project but there are a few paperwork probs. HPI check clear and car has only done 67k which is checked against the old mot's . the prob is that it has had 9 owners acording to the v5 but the last owner had the car for 14 years as written on the v5 but the service docs only show two owners before him from new, how can this be, is it posible that the car had private plates on it for a while and would this show up on the v5 as a change of ownership, or is it posible for dvla to have printed the wrong owner numbers on the v5. Also i bought the car from a TVR trader who said that the car has been stored since 1995 and its milage at that time was about 65k and the new mot shows that it had done 66k so the milage seems ok and it dont look to have been clocked and seats carpets and pedals only look like about that sort of milage, so does anyone here know of this car reg no D994 PRN in italian red or its previous owner a mr paul smith of upminster who had it for 14 years. sorry for the long write up....
i think i found your thread but it goes on about exporting ,is that the one? the paperwork that i have with this car shows its been in the uk at least from new untill 1995 when it was put into storage , what i cant understand is why 9 owners between 1986 from new to 1990 when the service book and the recipes show only two owners...did i get the right thread ..yes i know the suns out and i should be out in my car but i'm a work today ..thanks ian
