odd oil pressure reading

any ideas why my oil pressure gauge shoots up to 65psi as soon as I switch the ignition on? it then drops down to about 55-60 when I start her up, haven't ran it warms since it started doing this to see if it drops any further, but any ideas?

I think its time for a new sender unit. there was a recent thread on the chim section, last week or so where one was obtained off ebay at a good price.

Even better, fit a mechanical gauge, I did.

Just thinking exactly the same. No more dodgy senders telling you what ever they feel like. Im gonna order one now.

I think Jony has one of the EBay ones, worked fine for me & others.

Jony: Are you sure you have your live & earth wires connected the right way?

sorry i was in a rush when I posted this, yes it is a new (ebay) sender. and I have definitely got the wires the right way round, even tried them the other way with and without a separate earth, so either my new sender is duff, I have a strange gauge that its not compatible with or there's some electrical gremlins going on???
