HELP

In '68 I was young and poor and saved and saved till I could buy a Blue surrey top O/D TR5.

Now I am old(er)but not much richer and looking for a TR5 again. Does anyone out there know where there is one ror sale? No not the blue one at £30k !! and I have spotted the one on ebay, but cannot get to see it in time. Something that will get me round as everyday transport at a reasonable price.

Any tips gratefully received.

Nick

Hi there, for a useable TR5 your looking at 8-10k your best bet is to join the TR Register if your not already a member? www.tr-register.co.uk cheers Steve

Hi Thanks for that. I have contacted them and they have pointed out the anniversary rally next weekend, which I am going to try to get to.
Even if I do not find a car I will be able to reminisce and drool.

You're looking at the bottom end of the scale for a 5 in that price range. It'll need a lot of work and will cost a lot to run everyday in that kind of condition.

Hi

Thanks, from what i have seen so far I am inclined to agree, but if you pay £10 - £12k you are not going to get "trouble free" motoring and I have not got and would not want to pay more for a "nut and bolt" rebuild which I would not want to use everyday.

The search continues, watch this space. I will find one.

I know it's probably not what you want, but you could get a bloody good TR6 for that kind of money...

Yes I know, 6s are good cars, but just not the right one for me, I still hanker for a 5, my first proper car etc.

I don't think that your are going to get a good 5 for much less than about 15k, maybe more.

If you want trouble free motoring in the modern sense a TR isn't the right place to look anyway. They can be quite reliable, but there's aways something or other that needs looking at to keep them that way.
