top nut on strut

hi , how do you loosen the nut on top of front strut on a fiesta .spring broken .turn nut and shaft on strut turns .mole grips just slip. allso when loosened and strut dropped will i get new spring on without taking strut off alltogether.

theres normally use an allen key and a ring spanner to undo strut, yes take leg off to replace spring

Rattle it off with an airgun.

If the shock still spins, put vise grips on the top, doesn't matter if you scratch it as the top of the shock never goes down near the seals anyway.

hi pk500 snapped 3 allan keys now still no go, turbopug said use some sort of grip ,only have mole grips they just slip,i will try something tommorow, looked at your profile nice wedge i have a chimeara.thanks for your help.derek.

i will try stilsons tommorow ,i need to stop nuckles bleeding ang get hands clean for work . my chim is only a baby 400 , had it 7 yrs with no problems at all. just had new outriggers , wishbones, shocks , all re-bushed, all new cooling hoses, brake pipes ,fuel lines and had new clutch while it was in , hope it lasts another 14 yrs.

i rebuilt mine 2 years ago chassis up about 3.5 to 4 k on parts made my own riggers, if it makes you feel better ive been repairing vehicles over 20 years and i got stuck trying to undo a top mount on a galaxy a few months back it took about 2 hours to undo top nut to get leg off ive got loads of grips and gadgets, so good luck!
