Brakes - Fabia vrs - at wits end
Discussion
All,
i throw myself at your mercy.
i've recently started hearing a squealing noise from the front driver's side wheel. I assumed it was sticking carriers ( a usual culprit) and greased them up, still a noise.
new pads and discs on.... still a noise.
bled the brakes in case air in fluid, still a noise.
it's not all the time, only after 10-ish miles of normal driving, only one corner. pressing the pedal makes it stop. using brakes more makes it work. stopping for 5-10 minutes and starting and it will be gone.
the next stage for me is Caliper, Master cylinder, ABS sensor, but this is starting to get expensive.
please could you help?
Ben

Gunk around piston seal making them stick?
Take pads put, then very carefully, with a mate to help, press pedal so that pistons protrude from caliper enough to see rubber seals. Clean thoroughly with proper brake cleaner, then push back in and reassemble. Take care that fluid level in master cylinder doesn't drop below min.
Cross fingers.

I've had this before on VAG cars and it's turned out to be the wheel bearing on its way out.
They start squeaking intermittently once warmed up and applying the brake stops it. It's quite hard to diagnose as it sounds like brake squeal but using a mechanics stethoscope you should be able to hear a bit of roughness in the bearing when spinning it up from cold.
