How are bushes made?
Discussion
I'm thinking that where rubber bushes are bonded to a metal backing plate they must be glued with something like epoxy? I can't think of what else would work in that situation.
The reason I'm asking is a couple of bushes on my car have pealed off the metal plate, the rubber itself is fine & they've come off clean. Now until I've got the time/space/money to drop the front subframe & do the job properly I can't see any reason not to smear some araldite in the gap to stick them back together.
I know it's not the best way of doing things, but I can't see it being anything except safer than bushes that are currently totally separated.

The rubber is vulcanised within the metal bush which is what creates the bond, there is no actual adhesive used. Epoxy based adhesives do not tend to work very well with rubber IME, but superglue can create a reasonably long lasting repair as long as it's very clean and there is no gap to fill.
