Metallic sound FNS suspension (Megane Convertible)
Discussion
Hi all
I have a 2005 Megane Convertible which has a metallic "clinking" sound when it goes over potholes or bumps in the road at the front near side wheel. It's at the point you would expect to hear a clunk if it were the droplinks... Perhaps they can make a clinking noise?
I have jacked up the wheel and checked for movement when holding the tyre at 12 and 6 O'clock, nothing. When I hold at 3 and 9 there is a little bit of play, nothing major though.
Checked the spring for damage, nothing. The spring moves freely when you turn the wheel, no play as may be expected with shock mounts.
I will be changing the droplinks, see the image below. Not sure this is what's causing the noise though.
The tyre is worn on the outer and inner edge.
At low speed there is a slight wobble, more of a vibration, that can be felt in the steering wheel. It feels like the car is going to go all over the place but when you let go of the steering wheel it stays perfectly still. No pulling either way under breaking.
I'm thinking Wishbone, is there any way to tell for sure?
If so, next questions is... Where will I find a step by step guide to replacement. I really don't want to take it to a garage if I could do it myself and learn on the way...
What's anyones thoughts? Diagnosis correct? Help appreciated.
Thanks

Unfortunately my work server does not allow me to see the pics so I can't fully see what you are referring to.
That aside a noise like "clinking" sounds POSSIBLY like brake pads, I have had this on many cars before including my O/H's Clio.
To tell if this explains the noise find somewhere where it happens & then go over the bump again with the brakes on lightly, if that stops it then you have found the source of the noise.
Outer & inner edge wear could mean high pressures in the tyre, but obviously could also mean many other things too.
