Guys for years Ive been using the tool on the right. Its only for pistons that wind clockwise but ive been using it anyway for counter clockwise with a bit of fidling and not using the metal plate that pushes as you wind if that makes sense.

so i think f it ill but a propper left and right kit. and as it happens i'm doing some tomorrow for a freind so i pull out the kit and im fked if i can work out how to use it.

my problem is you see my old one the metal plate has a slot on it. The new on is just a hole. How the hell do you use it? it doesnt go through the hole so there is nothing to screw against.

im awaiting a really simple answer and people taking the piss and i will be very happy if they do.

Take the adapter off (which fits into the piston), put the windy part through the hole, then put the adapter back on.

Assume the new one is on the left ?

Yes. Old on right with plate with slot

That isn't an adaptor it s welded on and the adapters fit onto that also if you look where he back plate slots on the right one there is a grove in the main body

That grove isn't there on the left so it won't do anything sat behind that end bit even if it could get there. The main body would wind back leaving that plate dangling

P924 is right, unscrew the winder, put the plate on and then replace the winder. Same as your other one really..

Put the brake pad shaped bit (stamped with a 1 in your photo) over the sliding T-shaped handle and you are good to go. Some rear calipers are tricky and need a bit cutting off the tool to get them to fit properly.

Sorry I cant remember which are left hand thread, try google (or ask on PistonHeads).

This sort of thing really gets on my wick, why would you make a caliper that needs another special tool just to do one side, it doesn't make sense.

Still in a couple of years these tools will be rusting away in the bottom of your toolbox as many newer cars now need an electronic piston retracting gadget.

Or stick a spanner on the nut(ted) part (brain is dust right now). wind the handle which ever way it goes. find the gap you've produced and work out which parts need to come off to get the plate in there.

Different callipers, different slide arrangement, possibly a different manufacturer. Probably just the case that they were designed a certain way many years ago for different applications and they are now used on the same car, no point redesigning the slide arrangement to suit the different calliper body.
