So my audi a3 went in for its service, and I was told one of the rear springs had broken and one of the front shocks has a small leak.

When told the prices for replacements for example to change the spring will cost over £400 (yes over four hundred pounds for a spring) it got me searching the internet.

Ap coil overs cropped up a few times, for under £500 from revo tuning.

Now if I purchase these will it solve my spring problem and leaky shock? Or do I have to purchase more components to get over my problem?

I've just spent a small fortune on servicing. Cambelts and gearbox oil
So to see the extra bits that need to be done will be costing another £1200 was a bit of a kick in the plums.

I'm not to clued in this kind of thing, so help would be appreciated.

They do break, st happens.

Just had one go on my Merc, replaced the pair (front) for £320 at a local indy. £400 for one sounds insane.

Yep, they do break, even on Audi's smile. A rear coil was found to be broken on the wife's TT at it's last MoT.

From what you've said, a leaking front damper will mean they'll want to replace both dampers as it's normally bad practice to replace single ones. Unless the car is new then it wouldn't surprise me to hear they also plan to replace both springs on the axle rather than just one corner.

You can buy aftermarket springs/dampers which are straight replacements rather than buying Audi OEM or going down the modification route. Try somewhere like www.eurocarparts.com to get an idea about pricing.
