Seems caliper service kits are now a thing of the past and that you have to get recon calipers instead.

Costs more but at least you get nice clean caliper bodies too.

If your local motor factor can't supply there are companies specialising in older models advertising in the classic car mags.

Or do a web search for 'Talbot Horizon reconditioned brake calipers'.

Hello, Don't know what the outcome will be but my first port of call will always be these people.

Very fair on price, excellent quality.

Dave.

Actually Graham, Caliper service kits are very much NOT a thing of the past, there are many websites out there, and a local brake supplier near me that sell rebuild kits in most flavours. I myself was looking for a Talbot horizon rebuild kit not too long ago, and within half an hour of searching the net found four different stockists, who kept in stock kits for Girling, ATE, and Bendix calipers that were fitted to the cars.

In fact, if you need a rebuild kit, try these chaps.

www.biggred.co.uk/
www.classic-brakes.co.uk
www.pastparts.com

these are just a few who all stock service kits for calipers.

Thanks for the help guys.

All sorted now. Was asking for a freind who has bought a second hand set to fit to a VW beetle. Apparently they fit streight on in place of the origonal items and are a lot bigger. The pair he bought were a bit ropey and he wanted to re build them before fitting to the bug.

Well I'll stand corrected on that one Rob.

Must admit I hadn't bothered checking on the web, but couldn't get any locally a few weeks back when rebuilding the brakes on my Quantum.

All my local motor factors only do recon calipers now, whereas you used to be able to get seals and pistons no problem years ago.
