Maserati GranTurismo
Discussion
Guys,
Thinking of buying an early 07/08 Gran Turismo. Everything about the car appeals to me even mid teens MPG doesn't bother me. However, the cost of brakes.... surely your having a laugh..?? Is there any owners out there that have experienced or even know of a more cost effective alternative to the bonkers cost of OE discs/pads...??

Just under £2k for a set of front pads/discs
And are the discs regular steel, or anything fancy ?
What size etc ?
A custom pair of discs and bells could run anywhere from around £600 a pair at the budget end to £13-1400 a pair at the top end.
As for pads, if you had the pad shape or a part number etc you could try and cross reference to see if there are any others that might fit.
But if looking to change calipers too so aftermarket pads me be more accessible....you could be talking again in the £600-1200 range for a pair of calipers/brackets and pads
That's the thing about cars like that, even a lot of big Audi's etc wear/tear parts like that can be a bloody fortune !
I can see places on egay selling discs at the huge prices you're referring to. The discs do not look like anything special at all.
Any brake specialist would be able to sort discs/bells for sensible money.
Reyland up in Birmingham offer a good range of budget discs in all manner of sizes which would easily work with appropriate bells which I'm sure they could arrange too if you spoke to them
http://www.reyland.co.uk/brakes/
That would easily halve the price of the discs anyway
You could opt for more expensive race discs, eg AP, Alcon etc...but often these are great for the track but for daily road use, or infrequent road use not always the best option.
OEM Front pads on ebay look quite reasonably priced, although again any competition type pad supplier would be able to sort something from your old pads. Give Paul at Carbon Lorraine a shout

£2K?!? You're being ripped off.
http://www.ebcbrakeshop.co.uk/maserati-gran-turism... Pads £105, pricey but non-astronomical.
http://www.eurospares.co.uk/search?partNumber=2284... £120-235 each depending on model.
Both those searches took Google and me about 30 secs each.

As said to many people , If you cant afford to repair it its the wrong car for you!
I currently run a 997 Turbo and e93 M3, so am more than used to proper super cars running costs, just feel that £2k for one set of discs/pads is a piss take and that alone would stop me buying the car !!tapkaJohnD said:

Took me about the same time to realise they don't list front discs, as per my enquiry and you refer to EBC redstuff pads, which imho are cr@p...!!! Anyone can do a 'quick' internet search and find something similar, but try finding proper front discs/pads for the GranTurismo.... trust me, there are none. http://www.ebcbrakeshop.co.uk/maserati-gran-turism... Will have to take other advice on here ref bespoke bells/discs etc, or give the GT a wide berth...

Hi, I have GT on 2009, in my experience to replace front discs and pads with a make like Brembo will be ~£2.3k inc fitting and vat. Mine are getting close to renewing and so far I have spent sometime researching costs and makes. Like anything down to personal choice, if you want to remain with main Maserati dealer parts then these are the costs. If you opt to not fit main dealer parts but a good similar quality then that's the choice. Fitting pads and discs is only ~£200. I too would be keen to hear from anyone that could point me in the direction of where to get recommended genuine similar parts.
