On a separate issue, I was wondering if anyone might know what is causing this:
Whenever I reverse the car and turn the wheel right (haven't tested if I turn the wheel left yet), I get a thudding noise maybe around 2-4 thuds in succession. After that when I straighten the wheel and drive there's no problem. It only seems to happen after I've parked for a while. No thudding noises when I go forward and make U turns. If I've been driving and then parked the car and came back a few minutes later, there is no thudding sound when I reverse and turn.

Yes, my wheels are 19 inch and 235 summer tires (Michelin PSS). I read that might be common with those size wheels and tires but then again it might be a lug bolt issue or maybe something worse? Note: it's also freezing cold and dead of winter now.

I've had this, it's the tyre 'skipping' under full lock when reversing. I've had it on other cars with large tyres also, maybe get the tracking checked?

Are you reversing into something?

Sometimes on very cold mornings if I use full lock at slow speeds on my mx5 I get sort of a knocking sound but it stops as soon as the car is warm. I put it down to cold fluids.

More than likely the sheer size of the tyres causing them to skip.

Did you check to ensure there wasn't a homeless person asleep underneath before you reversed?

My car is lowered....he wouldn't be able to fit underneath ^_^

Sorry, I don't understand what does it mean "skipping" and "full lock"? I'll have to look those up.
Thanks again everyone, you guys are always helpful.

EDIT: ahha full lock meaning when the wheel is turned to it's absolute limit i think. Still not sure what skipping is though.

I looked it up....I don't think Scirocco R (2013) had a LSD. Is that good or bad for this situation?

Hmm yikes? And to think I was planning on getting wider tires next year (245). I better just leave it at 235.

Agreed, skipping on close to full lock is common on cars with sporty suspension and fat tyres. Seems worse in cold weather on my Merc A250.

thanks for the feedback. It's a little reassuring but still sounds/feels awful everytime it happens.
