Wont have a chance to get the wheels off until next weekend so in the meantime any armchair diagnostics might get me looking in the right place when I do!

The front suspension (or roll bar?) makes a chirping noise when the car (Peugeot 206) is rocked from side to side but not when bounced up and down. Sounds like a load of budgies.

Its a 2005 and while everything else is almost like new the suspension and front calipers look like they have stood still for a long time. MOT history supports this as it only did a few hundred miles in 3 years up to a year ago since when its done 5000. Its also been sitting for a couple of months until last week.

Where to start looking?

Cheers

Rubber bush/metal thing rubbing against each other.
Spray individual items with water - or soapy water - & repeat the rocking after water application.

Or get someone to rock whilst you're underneath (Ramps not jacks)

With the car sitting for a long time I’d be looking mostly for dried out rubber. ARB bushes or even rusty anti roll bar drop links.

Squeaking when rocking the car is commonly caused by worn ARB bushes. Drop links just tend to rattle when worn.
