Am told my car will fail an MOT if the brake pad light is on (which is currently coming on).
I know in the servicing done recently they need replacing soon but ok to continue.
Also that they are (3mm) well over the legal limit I am told is 1.5mm.

Should the faulty light be fixed (flashing at 3 rather 1.5) rather than putting new brake pads in. I understand the brake pads will have to be eventually fixed. Though this is something I could do without at this point in time.

I need the MOT now to be able to drive the car than new brake pads which can wait a little longer. Any advice on how to go about this.

Much appreciated.

Its not faulty, they come on round about 3mm if working correctly.

Just change them ...its a warning..... and they’re not expensive.

There is a reference to the Brake Pad Warning Light in the MOT Manual
According to the Manual, you will fail the MOT

I've never heard any nonsense about a legal limit on pads...simply because it would be impossible to enforce.

And even at 3mm...they need changed, 1.5mm they should have been changed ages ago.

So slap whoever told you that smile

There is no legal limit for brake pad thickness. 1.6 mm is the limit for tyre tread depth. 3 mm for brake pads is certainly time to replace them though. At thicknesses like that the material can start to break up and maybe even come off the backing plate.

Kwik fit site says 3mm but also says manufacturer recommendation is advisable.
Seems like a grey area of what is a required amount then. Would that not be discretionary in terms of how they apply this criteria on MOT.

Just trying to learn. Am new to this. Please be patient smile
