Skoda brakes on a weird one
Discussion
Good morning,
I have a slight issue with my brakes on a Skoda Octavia mk1 1.9TDI. Recently I've noticed they've become really spongy (air in the brake lines) which is one thing I need sorting but also the past 2 days when I brake, it's generally fine but only up until almost stopping where I feel a vibration in the braking pedal.
I also have a light knocking noise when I turn right, not all the time, but seems louder when I brake and steer right?
Are these related to needing the brakes bleeding or is there another underlining issue?
My pads a relatively new (November 2018) The discs aren't bad but do have rust around the vents, but to me I wouldn't of thought the discs would make these problems?
If anyone could help I'd really appreciate it.

2 different issues I think.
Firstly, why is the pedal spongy? Is it air in the system? Why is there air in the system? That is a big question and needs to be identified and understood, and then cured first.
Can't cure the vibration issue until that is sorted. It could be air in the abs pump/system but if so, why is there air?
Once the air is sorted, then see if the vibration is happening or not.

I suggest you get the brakes serviced. Spongy brakes can be caused by stale brake fluid and if so then fresh fluid will make a world of difference. It can also be caused by the fluid being overheated, for example by a dragging caliper, which can be a more serious problem. It can also be caused by a soft brake hose, which is more worrying.
While they're working on the brakes get them to check the front wheel bearings. Excess bearing flex can cause some similar symptoms and might account for some of the wierd behaviour you're getting under hard braking..

Definitely get to the root cause of the spongy pedal, it could be air in the system or you could have a flexible swelling under pressure and it's ready to burst.
Vibration just before to pulling to a stop can be caused by a bad ABS sensor or damaged reluctor ring that causes the wheel signal to be lost at low speeds, and the ABS activates.
