Hello guys im trying to get a 2003 w211 with 85thousand on it into the body shop but I'm not doing that until it's worth it. I've wasted a fortune on airmatic components 8 in total and still suffered weekness in the left rear wheel going down a pot hole The right hand side is solid.
To keep it short for now il just say what I have done rear left when I say done I mean paid someone else
1 subframe bushes all
2 upper control arms
3 lower control arm the one that holds the coilover conversion
4 new antil roll bar
5 new drop links

Still this issue of weakness persists. When I hit a 3inch dropped manhole at 30mph on the right wheels I feel all the bushes and rubber compressing and doing the job and as I said its solid. but on the left hand side there is nothing it's almost like the hub is moving instead of putting the load on the spring. I'm also sometimes getting a clunk on the left rear also

My question is would the lower rear rose bush course this lack of a solid feeling the rose bush has a forward facing thrust arm on it going to under side of subframe. The bush looks like the arm has been striking it while twisting backing up my theory of excessive wheel movement

The car is amazing over the stupidest of speed bumps its just pot holes or drops.

Next question could the hub or wheel carrier be knackers

I know a lot of this is subjective and very hard to describe, but I find it impossible to visualise the behaviour you're trying to describe. 'Doing the job', 'solid', 'there is nothing' tells me nothing about what is actually happening.

Yup...no idea what you're trying to describe.

And avoid potholes.

But why did you have all those parts changed in the first place ?

Sounds to me like you need a new shock absorber/damper.

Agree. Sounds like it is working in compression (over bumps) but not in opposite direction.

Why have all the other bits been done? Chasing the same problem or other reasons?

Chasing the same problem. I don't think it's a faulty shock got new coil overs. The lower rear forward facing trust arm and separate lower rose bush or lower ball joint which ever you want to call it have never been changed. To make sound simple one side bounces out of pot holes the other side is loose

I still have no idea what the actual symptoms are.

Sounds like you have identified some old components that are worth inspecting, at least.

I'd have thought that if you can demonstrate the problem to a competent mechanic they should be able to work out whether the behaviour is unusual and what is causing it.

Just because something is new, means nothing. And it could be totally inappropriate for the use. Or cheap chinese crap, improperly fitted, whatever.

But stop driving over potholes.....coilovers of any kind are the last sort of suspension for that type of use anyway !
