Probably the wrong section but here goes.
I have a trailer which I would like to swap the wheels for some alloys.
The trailer seller is aying that the wheels are 13”x5Jx et 30 x PCD 98
I have checked the axle type and according to the axle manufacturer they say it’s 4x100
Can I fit either or will it cause a problem?
Thanks in advance

The wheels need to exactly fit the hub - not just the PCD pattern but also the locating spigot.

That said, your trailer could use either 4x98mm or 4x100mm stud pattern but not both, so it does not make sense for the trailer to have one pattern and the axle a different one.

I did not say my trailer could use both. “ I said”. The trailer seller is aying that the wheels are 13”x5Jx et 30 x PCD 98

Yes I realise the spigot size is also important.
Was just trying to clarify the confusion between what the seller was saying and what the axle manufacturer say.

Thanks for your input

You could check the dimensions of the mounting hub for clues as to whether it's metric or imperial, and measure the stud/bolt pattern carefully to work out which PCD figure is correct. It's close enough that it would need care to tell them apart. I don't know how common 4x100mm is, but 4x98 (2 3/4" square) is a common stud pattern and I wonder whether the 4x100mm is misstated.

4 x 100 is unfortunately equally if not more common TBH.

As you say without visual evidence it could take a keen eye to be 100% sure which it is.

As it’s a 4 stud wheel mount you can measure pcd simply, either measure accurately from the middle of 2 opposing studs or measure from the outsides of the 2 studs and subtract the diameter of 1 stud width

You could perform the same on a wheel taken from the trailer
