Hi all

I’m about to replace the lowering springs on my car with another set of lowering springs.

I have been told to weight the car before doing up the top shock nut or else I will not achieve full lowering of the spring.

I have never heard of that before but thought I would ask the question.

My car is a BMW 645ci. The front springs are done with the shock still in the hub, you just remove the top 3 strut mount nuts and drop link, then it comes easily out of the arch for springs clamps.

Do I really need to weight it before tightening down the top strut nut and will it make a difference to the overall height?

Quite simply, all pivot point fixings should be tightened when the vehicle is resting on its wheels on a flat surface.

So that won’t relate to the actual shock and top mounts then?

Or you could use spring compressors that way you know it's at full compression.
